Roederer Estate
Roederer Estate is a California winery founded in 1982 by Jean-Claude Rouzaud, then president of its parent company, Champagne Louis Roederer. It produces estate-bottled sparkling wines from Mendocino County's cool, fog-shrouded Anderson Valley. As the California outpost of Champagne Louis Roederer, Roederer Estate winery is considered one of the top sparkling wine producers in the United States. Louis Roederer is a producer of Champagne (wine), champagne based in Reims, France. Founded in 1776, the business was inherited and renamed by Louis Roederer in 1833. It remains as one of the few independent and family-run maison de champagne, ''maisons de champagne'' (champagne houses). California Wine
California wine production has a rich viticulture history since 1680 when Spanish Jesuit missionaries planted ''Vitis vinifera'' vines native to the Mediterranean region in their established missions to produce wine for religious services. Jean-Claude Rouzaud
Jean-Claude Rouzaud served for over 30 years as president of Champagne Louis Roederer. He was Decanter's man of the year 2001. He is well known for organizing a celebration in 1997 to celebrate his 30th anniversary as president of the well-known Champagne company. The owners of 30 of the best wines in the world, in his judgment, were invited to attend the gala event. Half of his selections were from France. "I’m a chauvinist and a nationalist" he explained. The event took place in two separate parts: first, a dinner featuring Bordeaux wines, then a tasting the next day with all the other wines. Many owners expressed their belief that it was a great pleasure and an honour to have been invited to participate in such a prestigious event. Anderson Valley
Anderson Valley is a sparsely populated region in western Mendocino County in Northern California. Aging Wine
The aging of wine is potentially able to improve the quality of wine. This distinguishes wine from most other consumable goods.
