Roe Plains
The Roe Plains is a coastal plain in the southeastern corner of Western Australia. The Roe Plains are predominantly marine dunes on a coastal plain. The plains are bounded on the south by the Great Australian Bight. They are bounded on the west by the Baxter Cliffs, which extend for nearly 200 km along the shore of the bight, and on the east by the Bunda Cliffs, which extend eastwards from near Eucla for 220 km along the coast of South Australia. The plains are bounded on the north by the Hampton Tableland, an escarpment which rises to the Nullarbor Plain, and which is a continuation of the Baxter and Bunda cliffs. The Eyre Highway traverses the Roe Plains between the Madura Pass on the west and the Eucla Pass on the east. The only current human settlements on the Roe Plains are Madura and Mundrabilla roadhouses and the nearby stations — Madura Station and Mundrabilla Station. Roe ( ) or hard roe is the fully ripe internal egg masses in the ovaries, or the released external egg masses, of fish and certain marine animals such as shrimp, scallop, sea urchins and squid. As a seafood, roe is used both as a cooked ingredient in many dishes, and as a raw ingredient for delicacies such as caviar. Madura Station
Madura Station also known as Madura Plains is a pastoral lease and sheep station located about east south east of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It is within the locality of Madura and the Eyre Highway runs along the boundary of the station. Description The station occupies an area of approximately or 1.75 million acres – making it larger than the nation of Brunei – in the remote south east of Western Australia. It is the second largest sheep station in Australia, after Rawlinna and is currently owned by CC Cooper & Co. In 1927, the extent of the Madura Station was reported as two million acres. The station has a carrying capacity of 58,000 sheep, which are merinos raised for their wool. Eyre Bird Observatory
Eyre Bird Observatory is an educational, scientific and recreational facility in the Nuytsland Nature Reserve, Western Australia. Cocklebiddy is the nearest locality on the Eyre Highway, to the north. It is in the Hampton bioregion, which is sandwiched between the Nullarbor Plain to the north and the Great Australian Bight to the south, in one of the least populated places on the Australian continent. It was established in 1977 by Birds Australia in the disused Eyre Telegraph Station as Australia's first bird observatory, to provide a base for the study and enjoyment of the birds of the area. Nuytsland Nature Reserve
Nuytsland Nature Reserve is a protected area of Western Australia in the south-eastern part of the state, on the south coast. Geography Nominally located at 32° 18' S 125° 52' E, it has an area of 6,253.44 km², and takes in over 500 kilometres of coastline from Cape Pasley to Red Rocks Point. In the southwest the reserve includes the Israelite Plain, a coastal plain with broad beaches, dunes, sandplains, and coastal lagoons which includes Israelite Bay. The middle section of the reserve protects the Baxter Cliffs, dramatic seacliffs that extend up to 80 metres high for over 190 km along the coast. The Baxter Cliffs feature Toolinna Cove and Twilight Cove. The reserve boundary extends northwards near Cocklebiddy to encompass Cocklebiddy Cave on the Hampton Tableland. Hampton is an interim Australian bioregion located in southeastern coastal Western Australia, with a small portion (4%) extending into adjacent South Australia. It has an area of . The Hampton bioregion is part of the Coolgardie woodlands ecoregion. Cocklebiddy, Western Australia
Cocklebiddy is a small roadhouse community located on the Eyre Highway in Western Australia. It is the third stop after Norseman on the journey east across the Nullarbor Plain. The area is noted for its caves and lakes. It is the nearest locality to the south coast feature of Twilight Cove, which is 26 km to the south. Twilight Cove
Twilight Cove is situated at the end of the Baxter Cliffs on the south coast of Western Australia on the Great Australian Bight coastline. It has had other names, including ''Malbinya''. The local Aboriginal language for the area (known as Willilambie) was collected by Daisy Bates.
