Rodel Mayol
Rodel Bryan Generalao Mayol (born August 9, 1981 in Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines), more commonly known as just Rodel Mayol, is a Filipino former professional boxer and the former WBC Light Flyweight World Champion. Early life Mayol is the eldest of five children. At the fifth grade, he once stopped a delinquent, who was 3 years older than he was, with just one punch. He lived with his grandparents for over a decade in Calapayan, Tubod before moving to Mandaue City. He began fighting as an amateur when he was 15 and later won two gold medals at the Palarong Pambansa (National Games). Mayol finally became professional in 2000. When he wasn't boxing, Mayol used to wash cars as well as serving as a ball boy in tennis games. Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. Ardin Diale
Ardin Bayata Diale (born 23 August 1988) is a professional boxer from the Philippines who challenged for the World Boxing Organization, WBO flyweight title in 2011, losing to Julio César Miranda by technical knockout. Later on, Diale has settled into a gatekeeper (boxing), gatekeeper role, holding losses to Juan Francisco Estrada, Koki Eto, and Daigo Higa. Diale has held the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation, OPBF title between 2015 and 2016. He won the title by beating Renoel Pael by unanimous decision, and defended it successfully once before losing to Higa. Diale has also held the WBC International, Games and Amusements Board, and World Boxing Organization, WBO Oriental flyweight titles at other points in his career. Édgar Alejandro Sosa Medina (born 23 August 1979) is a Mexican professional boxer. He is the former WBC Light flyweight champion and went on to make ten title defenses. Professional career Sosa suffered losses in the early part of his career, the first one came against another future Mexican light flyweight champion Ulises Solís. He faced off against Solis in a rematch in 2003 but lost once again. Sosa would then score fourteen straight victories including a win over future light flyweight champion Gilberto Keb Baas and former two time minimum weight champion Noel Arambulet. WBC Light Flyweight Championship On April 14, 2007, Sosa won the WBC Light Flyweight Championship by besting former champion Brian Viloria by unanimous decision. Omar Niño Romero (born 12 May 1976) is a Mexican former professional boxer who competed from 1995 to 2016. He held the WBC light flyweight title in 2010. Professional career Known as "Giant Killer", he is the former WBC Light Flyweight Champion, defeating Brian Viloria in a major upset in August 2006 for the title. In his next fight, Niño Romero fought Viloria in a rematch to a majority draw decision and a retention of his title on November 18, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The win was marred with controversy, as Niño allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine in his post-fight urinalysis following the bout with Viloria.
