Rod Smith is a Canadian sports commentator and host of TSN's SportsCentre. He formerly hosted the ''CFL on TSN'' before being replaced by Kate Beirness in 2021. He is currently the lead play-by-play announcer for the ''CFL on TSN''. Career Smith has been with TSN since 1987, joining as an editorial assistant for '' SportsCentre'' (then ''SportsDesk''). He became a reporter in 1992 and has presented ''SportsCentre'' since 1995. He was also a play-by-play announcer for ''CFL on TSN'' and CIS University Football. At the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Smith provided the play-by-play commentary for Long Track Speed Skating. He earned his first Gemini Award nomination in the category of Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer later that year. Prior to that, he was an offensive analyst at the University of Virginia. Rodney "Gipsy" Smith MBE (31 March 1860 – 4 August 1947) was a British evangelist who conducted evangelistic campaigns in the United States and Great Britain for over 70 years. He was an early member of The Salvation Army and a contemporary of Fanny Crosby and acquaintance of G. Campbell Morgan and H. A. Ironside. Early life Smith was born in a Romani bender tent in Epping Forest, six miles northeast of London. Today the site is marked with a large, commemorative stone in the woods near Waterworks Corner, Woodford Green. Smith received no education, and his family made a living selling baskets, tinware, and clothespegs. His father, Cornelius (1831–1922), and his mother, Mary (Polly) Welch (c1831-1865), provided a home that was happy in their vardo. Smith primarily photographed with a 35mm Leica M4 before he transitioned to a 120/6x6 (medium format) Hasselblad with an 80mm lens. He preferred natural light to illuminate his subjects, but occasionally used continuous lighting. Rod Smith (born 1962) is an American poet, editor and publisher. Life He was born in Gallipolis, Ohio. He grew up in Northern Virginia and moved to Washington, DC in 1987. He has taught creative writing at George Mason University where he is finishing his MFA. Rodney Warren Smith (born November 15, 1949) is an American politician from the U.S. state of Florida. A Democrat, Smith was a member of the Florida Senate from Gainesville from 2001 until 2006. Smith ran for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Florida in the 2006 election but lost to Congressman Jim Davis. In 2010, Smith was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Florida as the running mate of Alex Sink in her campaign for Governor of Florida. From November 2010 through January 2013 Smith served as chairman of the Florida Democratic Party. Rodney Smith (born February 28, 1996) is an American football running back for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at Minnesota, and signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He has also played for the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions.
