Rod Denson
Rod Denson was a former radio and television personality in the Elmira-Corning television market from 1959 to 1989. The Radio Years Known as "Rockin' Rod", Rod was a disk jockey for radio station WEHH from 1959 to 1963. Rod Denson got his start in radio while a student at Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights. Station owner Frank Saia donated a half-hour of air time Saturday morning to both local High Schools. Known as "The Heights High School Show" and "The Horseheads High School Show". During each school's respective half-hour, a student from that school would play music from the Fabulous Fifty Chart, read announcements about upcoming school events, report sports scores etc. One Saturday morning Denson substituted for the school's regular host and his work so impressed owner Frank Saia, that he hired him part-time immediately after the show. WEHH (1600 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station which is licensed to two adjacent cities in the Southern Tier of New York, Elmira Heights and Horseheads, New York. It is owned by Tower Broadcasting and airs an Top 40 (CHR) radio format, simulcasting WLVY 94.3 FM Elmira. The music is programmed in-house and ranges from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin to The Beatles and Dionne Warwick. Weekends include the syndicated "Sundays with Sinatra," hosted by Sid Mark, and polka music hosted by Jimmy Sturr. Most hours begin with world and national news from CBS Radio News. Chubby Checker (born Ernest Evans; October 3, 1941) is an American rock and roll singer and dancer. He is widely known for popularizing many dance styles, including The Twist dance style, with his 1960 hit cover of Hank Ballard & The Midnighters' R&B song " The Twist", and the Pony dance style with the 1961 cover of the song "Pony Time". His biggest UK hit, "Let's Twist Again", was released one year later (in 1962); that year, he also popularized the song "Limbo Rock", originally a previous-year instrumental hit by the Champs to which he added lyrics, and its trademark Limbo dance, as well as other dance styles such as The Fly. Harold Lloyd Jenkins (September 1, 1933 – June 5, 1993), better known by his stage name Conway Twitty, was an American singer and songwriter. Initially a part of the 1950s rockabilly scene, Twitty was best known as a country music performer.
