Rod Blackburn
Roderick Blackburn (July 29, 1939 – November 19, 2021) was an American ice hockey goaltender who was the first All-American for New Hampshire in 1961. Career Blackburn was a four-year player for Notre Dame High School in Berlin, New Hampshire, and backstopped the team to four consecutive state tournaments. As a senior, Blackburn helped the team win the New England high school championship and was a star recruit for the University of New Hampshire in 1957. After a year on the freshman team Blackburn became the team's starting goaltender. New Hampshire was not among the elite eastern teams at the time: despite finishing with a 14–5 record, the Wildcats weren't considered for a postseason invitation, based on how weak their schedule was relative to other teams. Blackburn was one of the few highlights of the team during this time, and he was named team captain for his senior season. Berlin ( ) is a city along the Androscoggin River in Coös County in northern New Hampshire, United States. It is the northernmost city in New Hampshire. The population was 9,425 at the 2020 census, down from 10,051 at the 2010 census. It includes the village of Cascade in the south part of the city. Save percentage (often known by such symbols as SV%, SVS%, SVP, PCT) is a statistic in various goal-scoring sports that track saves as a statistic. In ice hockey and lacrosse, it is a statistic that represents the percentage of shots on goal a goaltender stops. It is calculated by dividing the number of saves by the total number of shots on goal. Although the statistic is called a "percentage", it is often given as a decimal, in the same way as a batting average in baseball. Thus, .933 means a goaltender saved 93.3 percent of all shots they faced. In international ice hockey, a save percentage is expressed as a true percentage, such as 90%. The American Hockey Coaches Association was formed in 1947 in Boston. The founding members coached college ice hockey but membership has grown to include coaches at every level of the sport from youth hockey to professional ice hockey, although the organization maintains a focus on the collegiate game. 1966 Ice Hockey World Championships
The 1966 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 33rd edition of the Ice Hockey World Championships. The tournament was held in Hala Tivoli, Ljubljana, Socialist Republic of Slovenia, SR Slovenia, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, SFR Yugoslavia from 3 to 14 March 1966. For the fourth straight year, the Soviet Union national ice hockey team, Soviet Union won the tournament. For the Soviets, it was their sixth World and tenth European title. Czechoslovakia beat both Canada and Sweden two to one, to take the Silver, while the Swedes' historic loss to East Germany helped put them fourth behind Canada for the Bronze. The lower two tiers (Groups B and C) were formalized, so there would be no more qualifying tournaments with promotion and relegation taking places between these two tournaments as well. United States Hockey League
The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA college hockey. The Chicago Steel won the Anderson Cup as the 2020–21 regular season champions and the 2021 Clark Cup, Clark Cup playoff championship; both were their second in franchise history.
