Rockwall County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. At 149 square miles, Rockwall County has the smallest area of any Texas county. Per the 2020 Census, its population was 107,819. Its county seat is Rockwall. The county and city are named for a wall-like subterranean rock formation that runs throughout the county. Rockwall County is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington metropolitan statistical area. It was one of the top 25 fastest-growing counties in the U.S. in 2010. Rockwall County is listed as the sixth-wealthiest county in Texas. Cities in Rockwall county include Rockwall, Heath, Royse City, Fate, McClendon-Chisholm, Mobile City, and part of Rowlett. Kaufman, Texas
Kaufman is a city in and the county seat of Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Its population was 6,797 at the 2020 census. History Kaufman was founded as "Kings Fort", named after Dr. William P. King, who established the fort in 1840 after purchasing of land where the city is now located. The community was renamed "Kingsboro" after five years of growth. In 1852, Kingsboro was renamed "Kaufman" after the newly formed Kaufman County, which in turn was named after David S. Kaufman. Kaufman was the first place that Bonnie Parker, of Bonnie and Clyde, was incarcerated. Nearby Camp Kaufman was used as a German POW camp during World War II. Kaufman County is a county in the northeast area of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 145,310. Its county seat is Kaufman. Both the county, established in 1848, and the city were named for David S. Kaufman, a U.S. Representative and diplomat from Texas. State Highway 276 (SH 276) is a Texas state highway that runs from Rockwall east to Emory. This route was designated on July 25, 1960, between Rockwall and Quinlan, replacing FM 1143 and part of FM 35. SH 276 was extended to its current terminus on October 25, 1990, replacing most of FM 35. History SH 276 was designated on September 7, 1938, as a route between US 285 southeast of Arno and Mentone. On April 16, 1946, another section from SH 115 to what was then SH 82 (now SH 18) in Kermit was added. On August 12, 1946, that section was transferred to SH 302. On December 1, 1953, SH 276 was transferred to SH 302. In early 2021, construction began near Quinlan to eliminate the SH 276/ SH 34 concurrency by rerouting SH 276 along the south side of Quinlan from its intersection with SH 34 and reconnecting with the existing SH 276 west of the city. State Highway 205 (SH 205) is a Texas state highway that runs from SH 78 at Lavon to US 80 at Terrell. This route was designated on May 15, 1934, from Terrell to Rockwall, and was extended north to Lavon on September 1, 1939. The route has been under heavy construction since 2006 as part of a new expansion and widening project, and was scheduled to be completed in 2011. The highway has a bypass road as well, John King Blvd., which begins near the Collin county border, and ends just before the intersection with Farm to Market Road 549.
