Rocketship Education
Rocketship Public Schools (RPS) is a non-profit charter school network headquartered in Redwood City, California. History Rocketship was founded by Preston Smith and John Danner in 2006. The organization opened its first school in San Jose, California in 2007. At its flagship school, students scored as high as Palo Alto School District students on California's state assessment, earning praise as an innovative alternative for low-income students. As a result, Rocketship expanded quickly and opened six additional charter schools in the San Jose area over the next five years. As a result of a planned succession in January 2013, Danner left the company and Smith was named CEO. In August 2013, Rocketship opened its first school outside of California in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2014, Rocketship expanded its network to Nashville, Tennessee. John Danner (entrepreneur)
John W. Danner (born August 18, 1966) is an American entrepreneur who founded NetGravity, Rocketship Education, Zeal Learning, and Dunce Capital. He is currently the Managing Partner of Dunce Capital, which invests in the future of learning and work. He was the Co-Founder of Rocketship Education, where he served as CEO from 2006 to 2013. He cofounded NetGravity in 1995, which was the world's first advertising server company. Education and career Danner received his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1988. He went on to receive his Master’s of Science from Stanford in Electrical Engineering in 1992 while working as a Software Engineer at Oracle Corporation. Redwood City is a city on the San Francisco Peninsula in Northern California's Bay Area, approximately south of San Francisco, and northwest of San Jose. The Palo Alto Unified School District is a public school district located near Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. It consists of twelve primary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and an adult school.
