Rockelstad Castle
Rockelstad Castle () is a neo-renaissance manor house in the municipality of Flen in Södermanland, Sweden. Rockelstad, together with Sparreholm and Vibyholm, are all estates situated on Lake Båven. History The old main building, dating from the 17th century, was rebuilt by Karl Sylvan in 1889 under the direction of architect Gustaf Lindgren (1863–1930). The main building, flanked by two round and two square towers, got its current appearance under Eric von Rosen (1879-1948) who owned the estate from 1900. The architect for the renovation was Ivar Tengbom (1878–1968). The large entrance hall at Rockelstad was completed in 1903. In the 1930s, the northern towers were rebuilt. Flen Municipality
Flen Municipality (''Flens kommun'') is a municipality in central Södermanland County in southeast Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Flen. The present municipality was formed in 1971 through the amalgamation of the ''City of Flen'' (instituted in 1949), the market town (''köping'') Malmköping and the surrounding countryside, including a southeastern portion of the former Oppunda hundred that was split between Flen and Nyköping municipalities. It also includes all of the former Villåttinge hundred. Geography Flen Municipality is a lowland inland municipality that falls to above sea level on the lakes of Långhalsen and Torpfjärden in the southeastern area. The highest peak is at on the tripoint between Flen, Gnesta and Strängnäs municipalities. Renaissance Revival architecture (sometimes referred to as "Neo-Renaissance") is a group of 19th century architectural revival styles which were neither Greek Revival nor Gothic Revival but which instead drew inspiration from a wide range of classicizing Italian modes. Södermanland
Södermanland ( or ), locally Sörmland, sometimes referred to under its Latin form ''Sudermannia'' or ''Sudermania'', is a historical province or ''landskap'' on the south eastern coast of Sweden. It borders Östergötland, Närke, Västmanland and Uppland. It is also bounded by lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. Sparreholm Castle
Sparreholm Castle ( sv, Sparreholms slott) is a manor house in Flen Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. The estate is located on Lake Båven just outside the community of Sparreholm in Hyltinge parish. History The main house received its current appearance in the 1890s according to drawings by architect Johan August Westerberg (1836-1900). At the manor there is a conference facilities and a café. Sparreholm automobile museum is located in a separate hall building east of the manor. South of the manor in the former carriage house is a large collections of jukeboxes. Vibyholm Castle
Vibyholm Castle ( sv, Vibyholms slott) is a manor house at Årdala, Flen Municipality, Sweden. The main building is located on an island in Lake Båven. History Vibyholm was built between 1622 and 1630 in Dutch High Renaissance style under design by Dutch architect Caspar van Panten (1585-1630). Restoration was made in 1798 following drawings by Swedish architect Carl Christoffer Gjörwell (1766-1837). In the middle of the 19th century, restoration to the house was undertaken under the direction of Swedish architect Lars Jacob von Röök (1778-1867). Gustaf Lindgren
Gustaf Axel Herman Lindgren (4 November 1863 – 22 August 1930) was a Swedish architect. Biography Lindgren was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He studied at the Royal Institute of Technology 1881–1885 and at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts 1885–1887 and went on a study trip to Germany, Italy and France 1888–1890. He was hired in 1887 by the agency administrating governmental buildings (), held the position of superintendent () from 1899. From 1905, he was teacher in the subject of history of building art at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He was married to Anna Birch and was the father to architect Gustaf Birch-Lindgren (1892–1969).
