Rock Academy
Rock Academy is a private Christian school in San Diego, California, serving students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Christian Schools International. As of 2016 it had 405 students. History The academy was founded in 2002 under the auspices of Rock Church, an evangelical megachurch founded in 2000 by Miles McPherson. The school opened in September 2002 in space rented from a Baptist church in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego. At its opening the Rock had a student body of 38 students from kindergarten through 6th grade, as well as a preschool. Seventh and eighth grade students were added in 2003. Rock Church is an evangelical megachurch located in San Diego, California, with five campuses located in Point Loma, San Marcos, El Cajon, Chula Vista, and City Heights. Miles McPherson, a former NFL player, has served as senior pastor since he founded the church in 2000. Megachurch
A megachurch is a church with an unusually large membership that also offers a variety of educational and social activities, usually Protestant or Evangelical. The Hartford Institute for Religion Research defines a megachurch as any Protestant Christian church having 2,000 or more people in average weekend attendance. Miles McPherson
Miles Gregory McPherson (March 30, 1960) is the pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, a motivational speaker, and a former NFL football player. History McPherson grew up on Long Island. He attended the University of New Haven, where he majored in engineering. McPherson was the university's first player to achieve All-American honors in football and be drafted into the NFL. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams; he was cut and went on to play defensive back for the San Diego Chargers. After battling a drug problem, McPherson became a born again Christian in 1984, and began participating in religious outreach programs. In September 1986, he retired from football; the next week, he enrolled in Azusa Pacific University's School of Theology. He received his Master of Divinity degree in 1991. Linda Vista (Spanish for "Pretty View") is a community in San Diego, California, United States. Naval Training Center San Diego (NTC San Diego) (1923–1997) is a former United States Navy base located at the north end of San Diego Bay, commonly known as "boot camp".
