Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon
The Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon is a marathon held annually in Arizona on the Sunday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day that links three cities of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area: Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Arizona, Scottsdale, and Tempe, Arizona, Tempe. The marathon race can be used to obtain a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon. The race weekend also includes a half marathon, a 10K run, and a 5K run. The competition attracts tens of thousands of runners each year; more than 32,000 competed in 2010. The prize money for winning either the men's or the women's marathon race is US$1,000. Like the original Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego Marathon, San Diego, it is organized by the IRONMAN Group, part of Wanda Sports Holdings. It was sponsored until 2015 by P. F. The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series is a collection of road running events owned and operated by the IRONMAN Group's Competitor Group, part of Advance Publications. Zekiros Adanech
Zekiros Adanech (Ethiopian: ዘኪሮስ አዳነች; born 26 March 1982) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. For her career, her personal bests were: 31:59.37 in the 10,000 metres in Sollentuna on 28 June 2005, 1:12.06 in the half marathon in Addis Ababa on 28 August 2005, and 2:27.32 in the marathon in Rotterdam on 13 April 2008. In the 2004 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, Adanech finished 16th with a time of 1:13:50, at the time a personal best. After focusing on the 10,000 metres and half marathon early in her career, she moved to the full marathon in 2005. She ran in the Reims à Toutes Jambes and won in 2005 with a time of 2:35:55. In 2006, she followed that up with an eighth place finish at the 2006 Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:36:48 and a third place finish at the 2006 Rome Marathon with a time of 2:27:38. Shitaye Gemechu
Shitaye Gemechu (born 17 June 1980) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner, who specializes in marathon races. Shitaye was the women's winner of the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon for the years 2004 - 2006. She won the 2007 edition of the Treviso Marathon. Shitaye first came to prominence with a win at the 2001 Amsterdam Marathon. She went on to represent Ethiopia in the marathon at the World Championships in Athletics four times consecutively from 2001 to 2007. Her best finish was seventh at the 2001 edition. She was banned for two years in 2009 after failing a test for Erythropoietin (EPO) at a race in Luxembourg. She returned to competition in 2011 and placed fourth at the Turin Marathon. At the 2012 Hong Kong Marathon she was runner-up to Misiker Demissie, crossing the line in a time of 2:31:44 hours in spite of a toe injury.
