Abbé Alexandre-Auguste Robineau
Abbé Alexandre-Auguste Robineau (23 April 1747, in Paris – 13 January 1828, in Paris) was a French painter, composer, violinist, conductor, and Catholic priest. As a composer he wrote under the name Alexandre Robineau, and as a painter he painted under the name Auguste Robineau. Life and career Born in Paris to the engraver, painter and jeweller Jean-Charles Robineau and his wife Madeleine-Charlotte Regnier, Robineau studied music composition and the violin with Pierre Gaviniès and painting with his father in his native city. In 1754, at the age of seven, he became a choirboy at the Sainte-Chapelle where he later took holy orders. Adelaïde Alsop Robineau
Adelaide Alsop Robineau (1865–1929) was an American china painter and potter, and is considered one of the top ceramists of American art pottery in her era. Early life and education Adelaide Alsop was born in 1865 in Middletown, Connecticut. She developed an early interest in both drawing and the then–popular pursuit of china painting. As a young woman she helped to support her family by teaching drawing at the boarding school where she had formerly been a student. During one summer break, she enrolled in the painter William Merritt Chase's summer school, her only experience of advanced training in painting and drawing. She later studied ceramics with Charles Binns at Alfred University and with Taxile Doat. In 1899, she married Samuel E. Robineau, a French ceramics expert who was at one time editor of ''Old China'' magazine. The couple had three children. Jean-Baptiste Robineau-Desvoidy
André Jean Baptiste Robineau-Desvoidy (1 January 1799 in Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye – 25 June 1857 in Paris) was a French physician and entomologist specialising in the study of Diptera (flies) and to some extent of the Coleoptera (beetles). Achievements Because he worked on difficult to identify flies (specifically the Schizophora), the existing descriptions of which were poor, and because he had few contacts, many of the new species he described were already named. Also he was over reliant on colour and pattern as characters, and this led to his improperly defining species. He also worked on too many species. Much later criticism ensued but it must be remembered that he was an early worker and, in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars, French scientists were unduly criticised for nationalistic reasons. Joseph Robineau De Villebon
Joseph Robineau (or Robinau) de Villebon (22 August 1655 – 5 July 1700), a governor of Acadia, was born in New France and received much of his education and military experience in France. Robinau de Villebon's importance in history occurred after his return to New France about 1681 and his deployment to Acadia in about 1685 to assist governor François-Marie Perrot and, subsequently, governor Louis-Alexandre des Friches de Meneval. It is known he was in France when William Phips captured Port Royal, Acadia in the spring of 1690. Phips took prisoners including de Meneval to Boston. Joseph Robineau re-established French rule in Acadia and was made governor there, a position he held until his death. He built the capital at Fort Nashwaak and was able to maintain the New England-Acadia boundary in present-day Maine because of his military talents and his skill in dealing with the Wabanaki Confederacy. Acadia
Acadia (french: link=no, Acadie) was a colony of New France in northeastern North America which included parts of what are now the Maritime provinces, the Gaspé Peninsula and Maine to the Kennebec River. During much of the 17th and early 18th centuries, Norridgewock on the Kennebec River and Castine at the end of the Penobscot River were the southernmost settlements of Acadia. The French government specified land bordering the Atlantic coast, roughly between the 40th and 46th parallels. It was eventually divided into British colonies. The population of Acadia included the various indigenous First Nations that comprised the Wabanaki Confederacy, the Acadian people and other French settlers. The first capital of Acadia was established in 1605 as Port-Royal.
