''Robin Hood the Role Playing Campaign'' is a supplement published by Iron Crown Enterprises (I.C.E.) in 1987 that can be used with either the role-playing game systems ''Rolemaster'' or Hero System. Description ''Robin Hood the Role Playing Campaign'' provides the necessary background for role-playing in the Nottinghamshire area in medieval England, and allows the players to take on the roles of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. The background material includes some English history from the time of The Conquest, life in Norman England, religion, magic and folklore, geography, towns, villages and castles, and notable personalities. ''Abyss'' was a gaming magazine first published in 1979, edited by Dave Nalle and published by Ragnarok Games. It was headquartered in Washington, D.C. Contents ''Abyss'' was a bimonthly zine-type magazine focusing on fantasy role-playing games including '' New Ysgarth Rules'' (also published by Ragnarok Games) and ''Dungeons & Dragons''. Each issue was twenty offset pages in length, with a reported circulation of about 175. Regular content included new fantasy monsters, character classes, magic items and spells; opinion pieces; and in every other issue, a mini-adventure. Later, the frequency of ''Abyss'' was switched to quarterly. ''Alarums and Excursions'' (''A&E'') is an amateur press association (APA) started in June 1975 by Lee Gold; publication continues to the present day. It was one of the first publications to focus solely on role-playing games. History In 1964, Bruce Pelz of the Los Angeles Science Fiction Society (LASFS) began a monthly amateur press association known as ''APA-L''. In 1974, with the publication of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' by TSR, Inc., articles and comments about the new roleplaying game began to fill the pages of ''APA-L''. TSR (company)
TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. When Kaye died suddenly in 1975, the Tactical Studies Rules partnership restructured into TSR Hobbies, Inc. and accepted investment from Blume's father Melvin. TSR, Inc. originally launched the monthly printed magazine in 1976 to succeed the company's earlier publication, ''The Strategic Review''. The final printed issue was #359 in September 2007. Angus McBride (11 May 1931 – 15 May 2007) was an English historical and fantasy illustrator. Early life Born in London to Highland Scots parents, Angus McBride was orphaned as a child, his mother dying when he was five years old, and his father in World War Two when he was 12. He was educated at the Canterbury Cathedral Choir School. He served his National Service in the Royal Fusiliers, and afterward got a job as an advertising artist. Career Due to Britain's poor economic state immediately following World War II, McBride found it necessary to leave for South Africa. In Cape Town, he became a fairly well known and successful artist. However, he felt that he could not expand on his artistic plans in South Africa's small publishing industry. Denis Loubet is an artist who has worked on several pen-and-paper role-playing games and video games, including the MMORPG ''Ashen Empires''. Career Loubet designed a set of miniatures called '' Cardboard Heroes'' (1980), a set of full-color cardboard figures for use in fantasy roleplaying games, published by Steve Jackson Games. Monte Cook is an American professional tabletop role-playing game designer and writer, best known for his work on ''Dungeons & Dragons''. Role-playing industry career Early years Cook has been a professional game designer since 1988, working primarily on role-playing games. Much of his early work was for Iron Crown Enterprises as an editor and writer for the ''Rolemaster'' and ''Champions'' lines.
