Robin Gillett
Sir Robin Danvers Penrose Gillett, 2nd Baronet (9 November 1925 – 21 April 2009), was Lord Mayor of London 1976–77. He was also Gentleman Usher of the Purple Rod 1985 – 30 November 2000. Family and education Born in London on Lord Mayor's Day, as it then was, on 9 November 1925, Robin Gillett was the only child of Captain Sir Harold Gillett, 1st Baronet MC FCA, who was Lord Mayor of London, 1958–59. He was educated at Pangbourne 1939–43, and Hill Crest School. He married twice: firstly, in 1950, Elizabeth Marion Grace (died 1997), the elder daughter of John Findlay, JP, of Busby House, Lanarkshire. They had two children: Nicholas (born 1955) and Christopher (the singer, born 1958). He married secondly Alwynne Winifred Hay (1931-2021), daughter of James MacDonald Hay, on 8 July 2000. The Lord Mayor of London is the mayor of the City of London and the leader of the City of London Corporation. The Honourable Company of Master Mariners is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London. While the other Livery Companies are entitled to the style '' Worshipful'', the Master Mariners are styled ''Honourable'', King George V having granted them that honour in 1928. Peter Vanneck
Air Commodore Sir Peter Beckford Rutgers Vanneck (7 January 1922 – 2 August 1999) was a British Royal Navy officer, fighter pilot, engineer, stockbroker and politician. He made notable contributions to Anglo-French relations as Lord Mayor of London and as a Member of the European Parliament. Early life Vanneck was born on 7 January 1922 in London, the youngest son of Lord Huntingfield and American-born Margaret Eleanor Crosby. He spent his early years in Australia during his father's tenure as Governor of Victoria in the 1930s. Sir Lindsay Roberts Ring, GBE (1 May 1914 – 10 August 1997) was a British businessman who took back control of the catering firm Ring and Brymer (Birche's), which had previously been owned by his family. After selling the business to Forte Holdings, he devoted himself to the activities of the City of London Corporation. After serving as councilman, Alderman and Sherriff of London he became Lord Mayor of London from 1975 to 1976. Early life Lindsay Ring was born in Herne Hill, London, the son of George Arthur Ring and his wife Helen Stedman. He went to school at Dulwich College, where he was captain of the school fencing team. After spending a year in Germany, he worked as a bank clerk in the City of London before joining the catering firm Ring and Brymer (Birch's), which had been founded by one of his ancestors, but was no longer controlled by the Ring family. Sir Sydney Harold Gillett, 1st Baronet, MC, FCA (27 November 1890 – 21 September 1976) was Lord Mayor of London. He was a chartered accountant. He was elected Sheriff of the City of London for 1952 and 631st Lord Mayor of London in 1958. Awarded the Military Cross on 14 January 1916, Gillett was knighted on 12 June 1953. He was president of the Baden-Powell House building committee of The Scout Association from 1953 until the building was finished in 1961.
