Roberto Carretero Díaz (born 30 August 1975) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. He won one singles title, the 1996 Hamburg AMS. Tennis career Carretero, a former junior French Open Champion, shocked the tennis world by winning the Masters Series title in Hamburg in 1996 as a virtually unknown player ranked only No. 143. En route to the title he defeated two top 100 players, two top 20 players (Washington and Boetsch), and most notably, Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the semi-finals, and Àlex Corretja in the final. The Hamburg European Open (formerly ''German Open Tennis Championships'') is an annual tennis tournament for professional players held in Hamburg, Germany and part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. Before 2021, it was a male-only event. The tournament is played on outdoor clay courts at the tennis center '' Am Rothenbaum'' in the Harvestehude quarter. Thierry Guardiola
Thierry Guardiola (born 7 August 1971) is a former professional tennis player from France. Career Guardiola, aged 15, broke a thigh bone playing in the juniors and was told that he would never play tennis again. He however went on to win the Under-18 French National Championships in 1989. In 1994 he upset world number 11 Magnus Gustafsson at the Philips Open in Nice, en route to the quarter-finals, where he lost to Slava Doseděl. The biggest win however was over four-time Grand Slam champion Jim Courier in the first round of the 1995 Italian Open, one of that year's ATP Super 9 tournaments. The Frenchman was a quarter-finalist on one further occasion during his tour career, in the Marseille Open 13. Christophe Van Garsse
Christophe Van Garsse (born 21 June 1974) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. Van Garsse competed in four Grand Slams during his career, including two Wimbledon Championships. He only once failed to get past first round and twice made it into the third round, at Wimbledon in 1997, where he was eliminated by Patrick Rafter and the 1998 French Open, where he lost to Thomas Muster. He was a semi-finalist at the San Marino Open in 1994, defeating world number 27 Magnus Larsson and fifth seed Renzo Furlan. His next best result on the ATP Tour was when he made the quarter-finals of the 1997 Bournemouth International. In the Davis Cup, Van Garsse had a 6-4 record in singles and lost the only doubles match he took part in. He twice won decisive fifth rubber for Belgium.
