Roberta McRae
Roberta McRae (born 6 September 1948 in Italy), former Australian politician, was a member of the unicameral Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1998, elected to the multi-member single constituency Assembly and later elected to represent the multi-member electorate of Ginninderra for the Labor Party. A former teacher, following politics, McRae entered academia. Biography Teaching career McRae was educated in Australia and trained as an infants' teacher at the Teachers' College in , Victoria and commenced teaching at , Victoria in 1970, before relocating to Canberra. By 1972 she taught at primary schools in and . In 1973 McRae travelled to Malaysia with Australian Volunteers Abroad and taught English as a second language at the Mara Institute of Technology. The Ginninderra electorate is one of the five electorates for the unicameral 25-member Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. It elects five members. History It was created in 1995, when the three-electorate, Hare-Clark electoral system was first introduced for the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Prior to 1995, a multi-member single constituency existed for the whole of the ACT. The name "Ginninderra" is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "sparkling like the stars". William George Stefaniak (born 8 January 1952) is an Australian politician and former Australian Capital Territory Minister. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Australian Capital Territory after succeeding in a leadership challenge against then-leader Brendan Smyth on 16 May 2006. He is a former Major in the Australian Army Reserve and a law graduate of the Australian National University. On 13 December 2007, he was replaced as Liberal Leader by Zed Seselja. Stefaniak contested the 2020 Australian Capital Territory General Election as leader of the Belco Party but was not elected.
