Robert Yuill
Robert Frederick Murray (Bob) Yuill (1924—May 17, 2006) was a municipal politician in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He served on the North York council for twenty-four years, at first as a ward councillor and later as a member of the Toronto Board of Control#North York, North York Board of Control. He was also a member of the Metro Toronto council. Background Yuill was born in Toronto, and served in the Canadian reserve forces during World War II. He received a Bachelor of Commerce, Commerce degree from the University of Toronto in 1948, and later operated a business forms company for twenty-five years. His son Donald Yuill was a North York City councillor for Ward 10 for the years 1988-1996. Mel Lastman
Melvin Douglas Lastman (March 9, 1933 – December 11, 2021) was a Canadian businessman and politician who served as the third mayor of North York from 1973 to 1997 and 62nd mayor of Toronto from 1998 to 2003. He was the first person to serve as mayor of Toronto following the 1998 amalgamation of Metro Toronto and its six constituent municipalities. Lastman is also known for having founded the Bad Boy Furniture chain. Early life Lastman was born in Toronto in 1933, the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland, Rose and Louis Lastman. Drunken Sailor
"Drunken Sailor", also known as "What Shall We Do with a/the Drunken Sailor?" or "Up She Rises", is a traditional sea shanty, listed as No. 322 in the Roud Folk Song Index. It was sung onboard sailing ships at least as early as the 1830s, and it shares its tune with the traditional Irish folk song "'' Óró sé do bheatha abhaile''". The song's lyrics vary, but usually contain some variant of the question, "What shall we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?" In some styles of performance, each successive verse suggests a method of sobering or punishing the drunken sailor. In other styles, further questions are asked and answered about different people. "Drunken Sailor" was revived as a popular song among non-sailors in the 20th century, and grew to become one of the best-known songs of the shanty repertoire among mainstream audiences. Anthony Perruzza
Anthony Perruzza ( , ; born 1959 or 1960) is a Canadian politician who has served on Toronto City Council since 2006. He currently represents Ward 7 Humber River—Black Creek. Perruzza was a North York councillor from 1988 to 1990, and served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1990 to 1995 as a member of the New Democratic Party of Ontario, New Democratic Party (NDP). 1988 Toronto Municipal Election
The 1988 Toronto municipal election was held to elect members of municipal councils, school boards, and hydro commissions in the six municipalities that made up Metropolitan Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The election was held November 14, 1988. This election also marked the abolition of Boards of Control in North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, and York. The Toronto Board of Control had been abolished in 1969. Metro The 1988 campaign was the first time most members of Metro Toronto were directly elected. Toronto had moved to direct elections in 1985, but the other cities had still had a selection of council members dually seated at Metro. Rogers Centre (originally SkyDome) is a multi-purpose retractable roof stadium in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, situated at the base of the CN Tower near the northern shore of Lake Ontario.
