Robert Wardlaw
Robert Wardlaw (5 August 1889 – 27 June 1964) was an Australian politician. Born in Mathinna, Tasmania, he was educated at state schools before serving in the military 1914–1920. He returned to become a shopkeeper at Ringarooma and later a farmer and pig breeder. He was President of the Tasmanian Farmers' Federation 1949-1951 and was also a company director. John Marriott (Australian Politician)
John Edward Marriott (16 February 1913 – 13 April 1994) was an Australian politician. Born in Elliott, Tasmania, the fourth son of Frank Marriott and Alice Maud , he was educated at Launceston Church Grammar School and later in Hobart at The Hutchins School before joining the military in 1939. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in June 1940 and was commissioned as a lieutenant in July 1942. He was demobilised in October 1945 as an honorary captain.. He was a staff member with the Tasmanian Liberal Party from 1945 to 1949, and was Secretary to the Tasmanian Opposition Leader 1949–1953. In 1953, he was appointed to the Australian Senate as a Liberal Senator for Tasmania following the death of Senator Jack Chamberlain. On 14 September 1971 he was appointed an Assistant Minister, holding office until the McMahon coalition government was defeated in December 1972. Mathinna is a rural locality in the local government areas (LGA) of Break O'Day (97%) and Dorset (3%) in the North-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-west of the town of St Helens. The 2016 census recorded a population of 142 for the state suburb of Mathinna. It is a small Australian town in the north-east of Tasmania, 63 km east of Launceston. It was named after a young Aboriginal girl sent to live with the Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land, Sir John Franklin and his wife, Lady Jane Franklin. Ringarooma, Tasmania
Ringarooma is a small town in north-eastern Tasmania. It is located just east of the Ringarooma River and is about south-west from Derby and east-northeast from Launceston. The area around Ringarooma is known for Dairy farming and timber harvesting. The locality is in the Dorset Council LGA, except for about 2.5% which is in the Break O'Day Council area. History The district was opened up to farming in the 1860s, and the town itself was founded in 1882 when a rural property was subdivided into lots by landowner Christopher Krushka. It was initially known as Krushka Town before being renamed Ringarooma in November 1888, taking on the name of a coastal town near Bridport, which was renamed Boobyalla. The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) is the peak body for the agricultural industry in the Australian state of Tasmania. It is a member of the National Farmers Federation.
