Robert William Marshall, Jr. (born June 17, 1959) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who has been serving as Bishop of Alexandria in Louisiana since 2020. Biography Early life Robert Marshall was born on June 17, 1959, in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, then went to Christian Brothers University in Memphis, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history degree in 1980. In 1983, Marshall earned a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Memphis law school. He then practiced civil law for twelve years in St. Louis, Missouri, and Memphis. Having decided to become a priest, Marshall entered Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans in 1995 and completed his Master of Divinity degree in 2000. Excellency
Excellency is an honorific style given to certain high-level officers of a sovereign state, officials of an international organization, or members of an aristocracy. Once entitled to the title "Excellency", the holder usually retains the right to that courtesy throughout their lifetime, although in some cases the title is attached to a particular office, and is held only for the duration of that office. Generally people addressed as ''Excellency'' are heads of state, heads of government, governors, ambassadors, Roman Catholic bishops and high-ranking ecclesiastics and others holding equivalent rank (e.g., heads of international organizations).
