Robert Wilson Hamilton
Robert Wilson Hamilton (1819 – 9 August 1904) was an American-born lawyer and judge who was the inaugural Attorney General of Fiji. He served on the courts of the state of Illinois and later practiced law in California. During a business trip to Fiji in 1872, King Seru Epenisa Cakobau persuaded him to remain and take up the newly created position of Attorney General. He served until Charles Rossiter Forwood replaced him later that year. Hamilton married Isabella Eliza Hart at Lapeer, Michigan, on 1 October 1858. They had one son, Alvin Nelson, born 14 October 1859. Robert Hamilton (Liberal Politician)
Sir Robert William Hamilton (26 August 1867 – 5 July 1944) was a Scottish Liberal Party politician and Chief Justice of the East Africa Protectorate. Background Hamilton was the second son of Sir Robert G. C. Hamilton who was Governor of Tasmania. He was educated at St Paul's School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and was called to the Bar at Inner Temple. He was knighted in 1918. In 1925 he married Gertrude Williamson of Kirkwall, Orkney. Professional career Hamilton was appointed an Assistant Judge of the High Court of East Africa in 1902. Three years later, he was in 1905 appointed Principal Judge and Chief Justice of the East Africa Protectorate. He was appointed as Chairman of the Civil Service Commission in 1918. He retired from the civil service in 1920. Political career Hamilton was selected as Liberal candidate for the island constituency of Orkney and Shetland at the 1922 general election. Robert William Hamilton, FBA (26 November 1905 – 25 September 1995) was a British archaeologist and academic. He was senior lecturer in Near Eastern archaeology at the University of Oxford from 1949 to 1956 and a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1959 to 1972. He was keeper (head) of the Ashmolean Museum from 1962 to 1972. Early life Robert Hamilton was born on 26 November 1905. His father was William Stirling Hamilton, a British civil servant working for the Indian Civil Service in the British Raj. His paternal great grandfather was Sir William Hamilton who was Professor of Logic and Metaphysics at the University of Edinburgh. From the age of four, Hamilton was educated at Girton Hall School in Torquay, Devon. During this time, his parents were living in India and so he was accompanied and brought up by a nurse.
