Robert Thompson (New Zealand Politician)
Robert Thompson (1840 – 21 April 1922) was a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament for Marsden (New Zealand electorate), Marsden, in Northland Region, Northland, New Zealand. Early life Born at Newtownbutler, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Thompson migrated to New South Wales in 1864, and New Zealand in 1870. He was a commission agent and auctioneer in Whangarei. He married Mary Catherine Aubrey, eldest daughter of Harcourt Richard Aubrey, Resident Magistrate for Kaipara District, Kaipara and Whangarei, in 1879. Marsden (New Zealand Electorate)
Marsden was a former parliamentary electorate, in the Whangarei District and in the Northland Region of New Zealand, which existed from 1858 to 1972. Upon its abolition, Marsden was replaced with the Whangarei electorate. Population centres The initial 24 New Zealand electorates were defined by Governor George Grey in March 1853, based on the New Zealand Constitution Act 1852 that had been passed by the British government. The Constitution Act also allowed the House of Representatives to establish new electorates, and this was first done in 1858, when four new electorates were formed by splitting existing electorates. The former New Zealand parliamentary electorate on the western inner city of Auckland, was known as City of Auckland West from 1861 to 1890, and then Auckland West from 1905 to 1946. Population centres From 1861 to 1884 the electorate comprised the suburbs of Ponsonby, Grey Lynn and Herne Bay.
