Robert Stephenson
Robert Stephenson Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS HFRSE FRSA Doctor of Civil Law, DCL (16 October 1803 – 12 October 1859) was an English civil engineer and designer of locomotives. The only son of George Stephenson, the "Father of Railways", he built on the achievements of his father. Robert has been called the greatest engineer of the 19th century. Life Robert was born in Willington Quay near Wallsend, Northumberland, the son of George Stephenson and his wife, Frances Henderson. The family moved to Killingworth, where Robert was taught at the local village school. Robert attended the middle-class Percy Street Academy in Newcastle and at the age of fifteen was apprenticed to the mining engineer Nicholas Wood. He left before he had completed his three years to help his father survey the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Len Stephenson
Robert Leonard Stephenson (14 July 1930 – 29 September 2014) was an English footballer. A centre-forward, he scored 26 goals in 93 league games in a seven-year career in the Football League for Blackpool, Port Vale, and Oldham Athletic. Career Stephenson began his professional career with Joe Smith's Blackpool in November 1948. It wasn't until just over two years later, on 20 January 1951, that he made his debut, in a 2–2 league draw with Sunderland at Bloomfield Road. He scored the hosts' second goal in what was his only appearance of the 1950–51 campaign. He made three First Division appearances during the following season, before injury struck, and sat out the entire 1952–53 term, at the climax of which Blackpool won the FA Cup. Stephenson returned to the Blackpool line-up two-thirds of the way through 1953–54, scoring their first goal in a 3–2 home league victory over Aston Villa on 23 January. Bob Stephenson (sportsman)
George Robert Stephenson (born 19 November 1942) is a former English cricketer and footballer. He played first-class cricket for Derbyshire and Hampshire between 1967 and 1980. He also played football as an inside forward in the 1960s, notably with Rochdale. Stephenson was born in Derby. He was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1967 and 1968. He joined Hampshire for the 1969 season. Hampshire played steadily during 1969, finishing the season in fifth place, though the team found the following season hard-going and ended 1970 with just four victories under their belt. Stephenson continued to serve Hampshire through the inconsistent times of the mid-70s, the highlight being the team's second-ever victory in the County Championship in 1973. Bob Stephenson (born February 1, 1954) is a Canadian politician and former professional ice hockey Winger (ice hockey), right winger. Early life Stephenson was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men at St. Francis Xavier University before turning professional. Career Stephenson played in both the National Hockey League and World Hockey Association between 1977 and 1980. He served as the mayor of Outlook, Saskatchewan, from 1998 to 2016. Robert Loyd Stephenson (August 11, 1928 – March 20, 2020) was an American professional baseball player. He played 67 games, primarily at shortstop, for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. Stephenson threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . He attended the University of Oklahoma. Stephenson struggled offensively during his professional career. The .243 batting average he recorded in part-time duty (as a backup to Alex Grammas) for the 1955 Cardinals was the highest batting mark of his five-year (1950–1951; 1954–1956) pro career. Robert William Stephenson (born February 24, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies. Amateur career Stephenson began pitching when he was nine years old. He attended Alhambra High School in Martinez, California, which he graduated from with a 4.2 grade point average. Stephenson's senior season for the high school's baseball team began with two consecutive no-hitters. Robert Donston Stephenson (also known as Roslyn D'Onston) (20 April 1841 – 9 October 1916) was a British writer and journalist, chiefly known for having been made a potential suspect in the Jack the Ripper investigation and for his personal theory as to the identity of the murderer. Involvement Mary Ann Nichols, the first victim generally acknowledged to have been killed by 'Jack the Ripper', was found about 150 yards from the London Hospital, on 31 August 1888. Stephenson had been staying at the hospital since 26 July and left on 7 December. His profession, and his private studies of the 'occult sciences', made him take a more than average interest in the evolving murder series. At the London Hospital the murders were, as elsewhere, the major subject of conversation.
