Robert Smeets
Robert Smeets (born 10 November 1985) is an Australian retired professional tennis player. Though born in the Netherlands, Smeets moved to Australia aged 12 and took residency. Personal life Smeets has two sisters, called Karin and Cheyenne. His mother is Jeannette and father, Joe. He lives in Brisbane. Tennis career Smeets plays predominantly on the ATP Challenger Series and ITF Men's Circuit. However, he has enjoyed some success on the ATP Tour: at the 2008 Next Generation Adelaide International, he and Chris Guccione, as wildcards, reached the final of the doubles competition. On their way to the final they defeated number 2 seeds Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich. Christopher Luke Guccione ( ; born 30 July 1985) is an inactive Australian professional tennis player from Greenvale, Victoria. He has won five ATP Tour doubles titles, and reached career-high rankings of singles world No. 67 in April 2008 and doubles world No. 38 in November 2014. Personal life Guccione is of Italian descent on his father's side. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He is married to Andra Kucerak, with whom he has two children. Tennis career Guccione is coached by countryman and former ATP professional Anthony Lane. Guccione is noted for his good service; he hit 50 aces in a three-set qualifying match at Wimbledon in 2005. The Australian Hard Court Championships was a former professional tennis tournament established in 1938 and held until 2008. The event was played on clay courts until 1977 when it switched to hard courts. The tournament was a combined event for men and women until the end of the 1980s. In 2009, Tennis Australia merged the separate men's and women's tournaments into a new combined tournament called the Brisbane International. Paul Baccanello (born 12 June 1979, in Adelaide) is a former Australian professional tennis player. He has sustained various injuries during his career, which have hampered his results. Career Baccanello managed to qualify for the main draw at Wimbledon in 2003. He defeated former top 100 player Ivo Heuberger in the first round, before falling in a tight four set match to Croatian Ivo Karlović in the second round. As a result, he earned a career best prize-money of over $23,000 and rose 37 places in the ATP rankings. In arguably his best performance to date, he did manage to reach the semi-finals of the Challenger event at Segovia in 2003, where he played Rafael Nadal.
