Robert Scott (born 2 October 1870, date of death unknown) was a professional footballer who played for Scotland against Ireland in the 1893–94 British Home Championship. Scott was born in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire. Career Scott played for Airdrieonians for around ten years from 1888. During his time at the club, the "Diamonds" joined Division Two of the Scottish League in 1894. Scott also had a one-match loan to Celtic on 29 April 1893. Scott was appearing in place of Mick Mulvey, and helped Celtic secure a 3–0 victory over Rangers, which ultimately led Celtic to win their first league title. He suffered a broken leg just before the turn of the century which effectively ended his playing career. Airdrie (; sco, Airdrie; gd, An t-Àrd Ruigh) is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies on a plateau roughly 400 ft (130 m) above sea level, and is approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of Glasgow city centre. , the town had a population of around 37,130. Historically part of Lanarkshire, Airdrie forms part of a conurbation with its neighbour Coatbridge, in what is commonly known as the Monklands, formerly a district. Matthew McLintock Scott (11 July 1872 – 14 August 1941) was a Scottish footballer who captained Scotland against Wales in the 1897–98 British Home Championship. He played most of his career at Airdrieonians, but also played for one season at Newcastle United and Albion Rovers. As a footballer, he was considered a "powerfully built full back." The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional football clubs mostly from Scotland.One club, Berwick Rangers, is based in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is located approximately 4 km south of the Anglo-Scottish border. The 1893–94 British Home Championship was an edition of the annual international football tournament played between the British Home Nations. It was won by Scotland in a close competition in which neither Scotland nor England lost a game but Scotland managed to accumulate one more point than England with a victory over Ireland. Wales and Ireland began the tournament, Wales winning the match easily 4–1 and gaining an early advantage. Ireland's second match was against England and the Irish managed to hold their opponents to a 2–2 draw in a very tough match. England recovered to beat Wales, scoring five goals, but this total was matched by Scotland in their first match. Scotland also managed to beat Ireland, the Irish again only narrowly missing out on victory, losing 1–2.
