Robert Bushnell Ryan (November 11, 1909 – July 11, 1973) was an American actor and activist. Known for his portrayals of hardened cops and ruthless villains, Ryan performed for over three decades. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film noir drama ''Crossfire'' (1947). Early life Ryan was born in Chicago, Illinois, the first child of Mabel Arbutus (née Bushnell), a secretary, and Timothy Aloysius Ryan, who was from a wealthy family who owned a real estate firm. He was of Irish (his paternal grandparents were from Thurles) and English descent. Ryan was raised Catholic and educated at Loyola Academy. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1932, where he held the school's heavyweight boxing title for all four years of his attendance, along with lettering in football and track. Robert Ryan (1882 – 23 April 1952) was an Irish politician and farmer. He was an unsuccessful candidate at the June 1927 and September 1927 general elections, but was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick constituency at the 1932 general election. He was re-elected at each subsequent general election until he lost his seat at the 1951 general election. Robert Ryan (c.1951 -), also known as Tom Neale, is an English author, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Liverpool, he moved to London to study natural sciences at university and began his writing career in the late 1980s for ''The Face'', ''Arena'' and the US edition of '' GQ'', and then ''Sunday Times''. Ryan published his first novel, ''Underdogs'', in 1999 and collaborated with jazz trumpeter Guy Barker on an extended version of a piece called ''Underdogs'', based on the novel. As of 2010, he published eleven more novels and was working on a novel due for release in 2011. Robert Allen Ryan (born December 13, 1962) is an American football coach who is currently the senior defensive assistant for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). Ryan has served as a defensive coordinator or assistant coach for seven different NFL teams. Rob Ryan (born 1962) is a British visual artist who specialises in Papercutting and screen-printing. He is known for his detailed paper cut outs. His artwork has featured in ''Vogue'', ''Elle'', and '' Stylist''. He has also collaborated with fashion designer Paul Smith. Rob Ryan (born June 24, 1973) is a former outfielder in Major League Baseball who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Oakland Athletics. He attended Washington State University where he played college baseball for the Washington State Cougars baseball, Cougars from 1993–1996, and was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 26th round (785th overall pick) of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft.
