Marie Alice Bremner (13 April 1904 – 20 September 1980) was an Australian soprano, remembered for performances in Gilbert and Sullivan operas. She became a favorite performer in musical comedy, first on stage, then revivals and variety shows on broadcast radio. She was popular with producers for her ability to take on key roles at a moment's notice and draw "rave" reviews. Her accompanist husband Ewart Chapple became a senior executive with the Australian Broadcasting Commission. History Bremner was born in Windsor, Victoria, eldest daughter of Ernest J. L. Lieutenant-General Robert Nicholson (1745–1821) was a British military officer on the Bombay establishment, who briefly commanded forces there in 1800. Military career Robert Nicholson was the son of Alexander Nicholson and Mary Murray. In about 1763, he joined the military establishment of the Honourable East India Company at Bombay. Robert David Nicholson is an Australian judge. He served as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia from 1995 to 2007, in the Court's Perth registry. Nicholson was admitted as a legal practitioner in 1960, and held the position of Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia from 1998 to 1994, prior to his position in the Federal Court. He was a recipient of the Centenary Medal in 2001 for service to the judiciary, to education and to the community. He was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2002 for service to the judiciary and to the law, to education, particularly in the area of university administration, and to the community. Since 2008 he has taught at the University of Melbourne's Law School. Robert Nicholson (piper)
Robert Nicholson (1798–1842) was a Northumbrian piper and fiddler. He was the nephew and pupil of William Green, who was piper to the Duke of Northumberland, and was later appointed as his assistant in this role. He first played in public together with his uncle, for instance at a meeting of the Society for the Improvement of the English Marygold, in 1816. However, he was already performing alone at this time; a newspaper article states that the Duchess's Piper being prevented from playing there by illness, his young nephew Robert Nicholson, then 18, "just the age of the late famed Wm Lamshaw, when he bore away the prize at a musical match at Elsdon Court Baron" , deputised for him, playing for the first time unassisted. Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (born November 24, 1969) is an American bassist. He performed on Rob Zombie's solo albums and is currently part of Ozzy Osbourne's band. He is also noted for his contribution as bassist to metal band Cryptic Slaughter within underground metal circles. Robert Douglas "Rob" Nicholson (born April 29, 1952) is a Canadian politician who represented the riding of Niagara Falls in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2019 as a member of the Conservative Party. Under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, he served as Minister of National Defence, Minister of Justice, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. Robert Albert Nicholson, also known as "Bobby Nicholson" and "Nick Nicholson" (April 29, 1918–September 23, 1993) was an American actor and musician. Biography Nicholson was a trombonist who played in big bands of the 1930s and 1940s. After a tour of duty in World War II, and more work with dance bands in the Buffalo New York area, he was hired in October 1952 by NBC director E. Roger Muir, at the request of Bob Smith (who Nicholson had worked with in Buffalo), for ''The Howdy Doody Show'', formerly known as "Puppet Playhouse". Nicholson played various characters during the show's early years, among them J. Cornelius "Corny" Cobb. He assumed the role of Clarabell the Clown, after the show's original Clarabell, Bob Keeshan, was fired in late 1952 over a salary dispute.
