Robert Nichol Wilson
Robert Nichol Wilson, known as R. N. Wilson, was a unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Wilson studied at Malvern College and served in the Royal Artillery during World War II. After the war, he became a director of a textile company and joined the Ulster Unionist Party. He was elected in the 1945 Northern Ireland general election in Mid Antrim, holding the seat until he retired in 1953 without ever facing an opponent. Unionist (Ireland)
Unionism is a political tradition on the island of Ireland that favours political union with Great Britain and professes loyalty to the British Crown and constitution. As the overwhelming sentiment of Ireland's Protestant minority, following Catholic Emancipation (1829) unionism mobilised to keep Ireland part of the United Kingdom and to defeat the efforts of Irish nationalists to restore a separate Irish parliament. Robert Simpson (3 July 1923 – 8 April 1997) was a unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Early life and education Born in Ballymena and often known as Bob Simpson, Simpson studied medicine at Queen's University Belfast before setting up his own practice. Samuel Hall-Thompson
Lt-Col. Samuel Hall-Thompson (1885 – 26 October 1954) was a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland. Hall-Thompson was born at Crawfordsburn in Ulster. He studied at Dulwich College, England. His father, Rt. Hon. Robert Thompson, DL, was also an MP. Samuel went into business and, in 1929, served as High Sheriff of Belfast. At the 1929 Northern Ireland general election, Hall-Thompson was elected as the Ulster Unionist Party Member of Parliament for Belfast Clifton. In 1939, he was appointed Chief Ordnance Officer for Northern Ireland, and from 1944 until 1950 he served as Minister of Education. This position carried with it membership of the Privy Council of Northern Ireland. Hall-Thompson suffered criticism from some Unionists for appearing to compromise with the Roman Catholic Church while in this position.
