Robert Nesheim
Robert Olaf Nesheim (September 13, 1921 – July 19, 2008) was an American nutritionist for Quaker Oats. During his time he worked for Quaker he helped develop cereals such as Cap'n Crunch and Life. He worked with the brand from 1952 to 1983. He briefly taught at his alma mater, the University of Illinois, in the 1960s. After working with Quaker, he worked on improving food guidelines for the healthcare industry and the military. Nesheim served with Nevin S. Scrimshaw and others on the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences in 1974 when the Committee on Amino Acids reported. He married nutritionist Doris Howes Calloway in 1981. Cap'n Crunch is a maize, corn and oat breakfast cereal manufactured by Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo since 2001. Life is a breakfast cereal produced by the Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo. It was formerly made of oats, soy protein concentrate, sodium caseinate and sugar, but now also contains corn flour, whole wheat flour, and rice flour. Doris Howes Calloway
Doris Calloway, née Howes (February 14, 1923 – August 31, 2001) was an American nutritionist noted for her studies of human metabolism, role in public health, and food preservation and safety. Early life and education Born Doris Howes in Canton, Ohio, to Earl Howes and Lillian Roberts, both private investigators, she went to high school in East Canton and graduated as valedictorian. Though she wanted to study medicine, her family could not afford it and she studied dietetics at Ohio State University, graduating in 1943 with a bachelor's degree. She attended the University of Chicago for her doctoral studies and earned her Ph.D. in nutrition in 1947.
