Robert Morton (producer)
Robert Morton is an American television producer most notable for his work as a producer and later co-executive producer of the NBC program ''Late Night with David Letterman''. Biography Morton is a 1975 graduate of American University (Washington, DC). He served as the creative director for MTV prior to joining Letterman's staff. Morton went with Letterman to CBS in 1993 to serve as executive producer of CBS' ''Late Show with David Letterman'', but left the show in 1996. After leaving the ''Late Show'', Morton has produced several programs, including ''Drew Carey's Green Screen Show'', ''The Wayne Brady Show'', ''Over the Top (TV series), Over the Top'', and ''Mind of Mencia''. He returned to late-night television when he took over as executive producer for ''Lopez Tonight'' on TBS (U.S. TV channel), TBS in 2010. ''Late Night with David Letterman'' is an American late-night talk show hosted by David Letterman on NBC, the first iteration of the ''Late Night'' franchise. It premiered on February 1, 1982, and was produced by Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants Incorporated, and Carson Productions. Letterman had previously hosted his own morning talk show on NBC from June to October 1980. The show's house band, The World's Most Dangerous Band, was led by music director Paul Shaffer. The American University (AU or American) is a private federally chartered research university in Washington, D.C. ''Drew Carey's Green Screen Show'' is an American improvisational comedy television series that aired in the fall of 2004 on The WB, and the fall of 2005 on Comedy Central. The show was hosted by Drew Carey, and was somewhat a follow-up to the show he formerly hosted, ''Whose Line Is It Anyway?''. The distinguishing feature of the show was that the improv games were performed in front of a "green screen" (similar to the "Newsflash" game from ''Whose Line?''), with animation, music and sound effects inserted in post-production. The show was otherwise very similar to ''Whose Line?'' and featured many of the same performers and games. On an appearance on ''Late Night with Conan O'Brien'' when "Green Screen" premiered, Carey claimed that he got the idea during the ''Whose Line?'' game "Moving people" when he thought how funny it would be if you could not see the people manipulating the players. On August 8, 2001, ABC, for whom Brady had been working as a panelist on ''Whose Line Is It Anyway?'', launched the first ''Wayne Brady Show'' as a primetime variety series that failed to catch on and was cancelled in March 2002.
