Robert Moorhouse
Robert Moorhouse (7 September 1866 – 7 January 1921) was an English first-class cricketer, who played 206 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1888 and 1899. He also played first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) (1891-1900) and an XI of Yorkshire (1894). He was born in Berry Brow, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. In 217 first-class games overall, he scored 5,337 runs at 18.72 on the difficult pitches of the time. He recorded three centuries, with his best a knock of 113 against Somerset. His other tons came at the expense of MCC (105) and Warwickshire (102*). He took 49 wickets with his right arm medium pace, at a cost of 28.08 apiece, with his best bowling return of 4 for 40 coming against Sussex whilst playing for the MCC. He was also on the MCC groundstaff at one time. A short plucky man, Moorhouse had the reputation of being a fine cover-point fielder. Berry Brow
Berry Brow is a semi-rural village in West Yorkshire, England, situated about south of Huddersfield. It lies on the eastern bank of the Holme Valley and partially straddles the A616 road to Honley and Penistone. The village has a Victorian infants' and nursery school, some shops and a railway platform on the Penistone Line. It lies between Armitage Bridge, Taylor Hill and Newsome. Berry Brow is served by two public houses (The Railway and The Golden Fleece) and a liberal club. The site of a third public house, The Black Bull, was converted into an Indian restaurant in 1994, and received planning permission to expand capacity in 2011. Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Sussex. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. The club was founded in 1839 as a successor to the various Sussex county cricket teams, including the old Brighton Cricket Club, which had been representative of the county of Sussex as a whole since the 1720s. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). The Huddersfield Cricket League is the premier cricket competition in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. The league has been in existence since 1891 with teams representing suburbs of Huddersfield and villages in the Huddersfield district area. There are now 41 teams in the league. Now there are teams from South Yorkshire and Saddleworth, as well as clubs that have joined the league from the now defunct Huddersfield Central Cricket League and former Central Yorkshire Cricket League. Fielding in the sport of cricket is the action of fielders in collecting the ball after it is struck by the striking batter, to limit the number of runs that the striker scores and/or to get a batter out by either catching a hit ball before it bounces, or by running out either batter before they can complete the run they are currently attempting. There are a number of recognised fielding positions, and they can be categorised into the offside and leg side of the field. Fielding also involves preventing the ball from going to or over the edge of the field (which would result in runs being scored by the batting team in the form of a boundary).
