Robert McKenzie (Australian Politician)
Robert Donald McKenzie (19 March 1865 – 14 May 1928) was an Australian businessman and politician who was a member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1904 to 1916. He was a minister in the first government of Frank Wilson. McKenzie was born in Eaglehawk, Victoria (near Bendigo), to Margaret (née Reid) and Hugh McKenzie. He came to Western Australia in 1894, during the gold rush, and opened a general store at Hannans (near Kalgoorlie). McKenzie later expanded his business, becoming a timber and hardware merchant. He was elected to the Kalgoorlie Municipal Council in 1895, and would serve as Mayor of Kalgoorlie from 1897 to 1898. McKenzie was elected to parliament at the 1904 Legislative Council elections, defeating Arthur Jenkins in North-East Province. Town Of Kalgoorlie
The Town of Kalgoorlie was a local government area in Western Australia, centred on the town of Kalgoorlie. It was established as the Municipality of Kalgoorlie on 15 February 1895. It was renamed the Town of Kalgoorlie on 1 July 1961. The municipality was responsible for the construction of the Kalgoorlie Town Hall as its new headquarters in 1907-09, which replaced earlier municipal chambers in Brookman Street. It amalgamated with the Shire of Boulder to form the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder on 15 April 1989. The role of premier at a state level is similar to the role of the prime minister of Australia at a federal level. Newton Moore
Major General Sir Newton James Moore, (17 May 1870 – 28 October 1936) was an Australian politician, businessman and army officer. He served as the eighth Premier of Western Australia from 1906 to 1910 and, following service in the First World War, was a member of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1918 to 1932. He was the father of Sir Rodney Moore. Early life and career Newton Moore was born in Fremantle, Western Australia, son of James Moore, auctioneer and later mayor of Bunbury, and Elizabeth Dawson, schoolteacher. He was educated at Arthur Street Primary School in Bunbury before attending Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, South Australia. In 1886, he was apprenticed as a surveyor to Alexander Forrest. After qualifying in 1894, he worked as a contract surveyor in and around the Bunbury area. In April 1898 he married Isabella Lowrie, sister of William Lowrie. Kalgoorlie is a city in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, located east-northeast of Perth at the end of the Great Eastern Highway.
