Robert McDougall (politician)
Robert McDougall (16 April 1813 – 25 June 1887) was a cattle breeder and politician in colonial Victoria, a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Born in Fortingall, Perthshire, Scotland, McDougall was the son of Alexander McDougall, a sheep farmer, and his wife Grace, ''née'' Stewart. McDougall enjoyed hunting and fishing in the western Scottish islands; from 1836 to 1839 he trapped beaver in Canada. After returning briefly to Scotland, he emigrated to Australia, arriving in Melbourne in November 1841. In November 1856, McDougall was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for West Bourke, a position he held until resigning in August 1857. McDougall bred shorthorn cattle and bought the Arundel farm in Keilor in 1870. Robert Ewing McDougall (26 December 1860 – 21 February 1942), sometimes referred to as Robert Euing McDougall, was a businessman, and philanthropist from Christchurch, New Zealand. He was the benefactor of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery. Early life McDougall was born in Melbourne in 1860 and moved to Christchurch in 1863. He was educated at Charles Cook's Private School and Christ's College, Christchurch, Christ's College. McDougall's father, W.E. McDougall, was a partner of the Aulsebrooks Bakery with John Aulsebrook. His father left the partnership after two years but bought an interest in the company for his son. Career Before taking over the ownership and management of Aulsebrooks Bakery, McDougall worked as a junior clerk in the Colonial Bank of New Zealand and also managed Lane's Flour Mill, on Mill Island in the Avon. Robert McDougall Art Gallery
The Robert McDougall Art Gallery is a heritage building in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was designed by Edward Armstrong and it opened in 1932. It is a Category I heritage building listed with Heritage New Zealand and is located within the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. History In 1925 James Jamieson, a wealthy local building contractor, pledged to leave his art collection to Christchurch City on the condition that a new premises were built to house it. The Christchurch City Council held a referendum to gauge public support for taking out a loan to pay for the new gallery. This idea was rejected and nothing happened until 1928 when Robert McDougall donated £25,000 for the gallery to be built. A competition was set up to find an agreeable design. Robert MacDougall
Robert Ernest MacDougall (March 2, 1876 – March 26, 1950) was a notable Canadian ice hockey player and businessman. He played in the early days of organized ice hockey, before professionalism. He played the position of forward for the Montreal Victorias and was a member of five Stanley Cup-winning teams. Personal life MacDougall was born in Montreal, Quebec. He attended Bishop's College School boarding school in Lennoxville as a youth. At BCS he played hockey with future Victorias teammates Hartland MacDougall (no relation) and Ernie McLea. At age twelve, MacDougall played on the BCS first team of ice hockey, and is noted as one of the youngest to ever do so. After ice hockey, MacDougall would become a partner with Hartland MacDougall in the stock-trading firm MacDougall & MacDougall of Montreal. Bob McDougall
Bob McDougall (1894–1936) was a Scottish professional footballer, who played for St Cuthbert Wanderers, Dumfries, Liverpool, Ayr United, Falkirk and Queen of the South. Career McDougall, who was from Kirkcudbright, began playing his football career with local side St Cuthbert Wanderers. McDougall then played for Dumfries at their Eastfield ground."The Queens" by Iain McCartney on Creedon Publications, 2004 He then went to Liverpool for whom he played in the 1913/14 FA Cup. He also played 7 league games scoring on his debut. After World War I, McDougall gave service to Ayr United and Falkirk.
