Robert Malcolm McRae Jr.
Robert Malcolm McRae Jr. (December 31, 1921 – June 25, 2004) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Education and career Born in Memphis, Tennessee, McRae received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1943 and was a United States Naval Reserve Lieutenant during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1948. He was in private practice in Memphis from 1948 to 1964. He was an assistant city attorney of Memphis from 1961 to 1964. He was a judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit Court in Memphis from 1964 to 1966. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. Memphis City Schools
Memphis City Schools (MCS) was the school district operating public schools in the city of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It was headquartered in the Frances E. Coe Administration Building. On March 8, 2011, residents voted to disband the city school district, effectively merging it with the Shelby County School District. The merger took effect July 1, 2013. After much legal maneuvering, all six incorporated municipalities (other than Memphis) created separate school districts in 2014. Total enrollment, as of the 2010-2011 school year, was about 103,000 students, which made the district the largest in Tennessee. MCS served the entire city of Memphis. Some areas of unincorporated Shelby County were zoned to Memphis City Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Race-integration busing in the United States (also known simply as busing, Integrated busing or by its critics as forced busing) was the practice of assigning and student transport, transporting students to schools within or outside their local school districts in an effort to diversify the racial make-up of schools. While the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision in ''Brown v. Board of Education'' declared racial segregation in Public school (government funded), public schools unconstitutional, many American schools continued to remain largely uni-racial due to housing discrimination in the United States, housing inequality.
