Robert Lewis May
Robert L. May (July 27, 1905 – August 11, 1976) was an American retailer. He was best known for creating the fictional character Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Early life Robert Lewis May was born in Arverne, Long Island, New York, and grew up in a fairly affluent secular Jewish home in New Rochelle, New York. ereinafter Bloom, "Shining a Light"/ref> His parents were members of the Ethical Culture Society, which believed that morality is independent of theology. May grew up having no religious preference. He had a brother and two sisters. One of the sisters, Evelyn May, was the grandmother of economist Steven D. Levitt, who wrote the book '' Freakonomics''. Arverne is a neighborhood in the New York City borough (New York City), borough of Queens, on the Rockaway, Queens, Rockaway Peninsula. It was initially developed by Remington Vernam (land developer), Remington Vernam, whose signature "R. Vernam" inspired the name of the neighborhood. Arverne extends from Beach 54th Street to Beach 79th Street, along its main thoroughfare Beach Channel Drive, alternatively known as Rev. Joseph H. May Drive. Arverne is located in Queens Community Board 14, Queens Community District 14 and its ZIP Code is 11692. It is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 100th Precinct.
