Robert Kaliňák
Robert Kaliňák (born 11 May 1971) is a Slovak politician who was the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior of Slovakia from 4 July 2006 to 12 March 2018. He is a member of the Direction – Social Democracy party. Kaliňák previously served as Minister of the Interior from 4 July 2006 to 8 July 2010. Kaliňák resigned on 12 March 2018 after the murder of Slovak journalist Ján Kuciak. He left as the longest serving minister in the history of modern Slovakia. Early life and education Robert Kaliňák was born on 11 May 1971 in Bratislava. His father was a sailor and his mother worked as a teacher. After graduating from a technical school, he enrolled at the Law Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava from 1989 to 1995. During the Velvet Revolution of 1989, he took part as a member of the coordinating committee in the student movement. Fico's Third Cabinet
Robert Fico's Third Cabinet was government of Slovakia, headed by prime minister Robert Fico. It replaced Fico's Second Cabinet on 23 March 2016 following the 2016 parliamentary election, in which Fico's Direction – Social Democracy party ( sk, Smer-SD) lost its parliamentary majority, and met for the first time on March 30. It consists of 15 members including the prime minister, and was originally composed of four parties: Smer–SD, the Slovak National Party, the Slovak-Hungarian Most–Híd party, and the Network party. Most of the elected MPs of Network party joined Most-Híd shortly after the elections and the party is currently dissolved. Slovak Police Training Explosives Incident
The Slovak Police training explosives incident involved a passenger on Danube Wings Flight V5 8230, a flight from Poprad-Tatry Airport, Slovak Republic, to Dublin Airport, Ireland, on 2 January 2010, that, three days later, caused an international incident due to the mistaken carriage of a sample of plastic explosive on the aircraft. The explosive had been placed in a departing passenger's luggage in Poprad-Tatry Airport as part of a sniffer dog effectiveness test for checked in luggage. The test material was detected by the dogs. A Slovak security officer apparently then failed to remove it, and the bag was loaded onto a flight to Dublin. With security checks not generally performed for arrivals, the passenger arrived without incident and took the bag to his home in central Dublin. Robert Fico
Robert Fico (; born 15 September 1964) is a Slovak politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2006 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2018 (when he resigned). He has been the first leader of the Direction – Social Democracy (SMER-SD) party since 1999. First elected to Parliament in 1992 (whilst within Czechoslovakia), he was later appointed to the Council of Europe. Following his party's victory in the 2006 parliamentary election, he formed the first Fico Cabinet. After the 2010 parliamentary election, Fico sat as an opposition member of parliament, effectively as leader of the opposition. Following a motion of confidence against the Iveta Radičová cabinet, Fico was re-appointed as Prime Minister after leading SMER-SD to a landslide election victory in the 2012 parliamentary election, winning 83 seats and forming a government with an absolute majority in Parliament, the first such since 1989. Hedvig Malina ( sk, Hedviga Malinová) (born 1983) is an ethnic Hungarian woman from Horné Mýto ( hu, Felsővámos), Slovakia, whose situation gained publicity in 2006 for claiming that she was physically assaulted in a hate crime incident. The incident caused a media sensation and her case has ever since represented a highly controversial and debated issue of Hungary-Slovakia relations. On 4 April 2014, Slovak attorney general charged Malina with perjury. If found guilty, she would face up to 3 years in prison. Andrej Kiska, the president of Slovakia, said that he would grant Malina pardon in case she is convicted. Malina took her case to the European Court of Human Rights, challenging what she calls the "inhuman and humiliating" conduct of the Slovak officials.
