Robert Juniper
Robert Litchfield Juniper, Member of the Order of Australia, AM (7 January 192920 December 2012) was an Australian artist, art teacher, illustrator, painter, printmaker and sculptor. Early life Juniper was born in the wheat-belt town of Merredin, Western Australia. He studied commercial art and industrial design at Beckenham School of Art, England. After returning to Western Australia he painted, taught and exhibited in Perth. He was particularly championed by Rose Skinner, a local exhibitor. He was a long-term resident of Darlington, Western Australia, Darlington and at different stages in its history involved with the Darlington Arts Festival. Teaching Juniper taught art at Perth College (Western Australia), Perth College and Hale School in the 1950s, and at Guildford Grammar School in the 1960s. ''The Western Mail'', or ''Western Mail'', was the name of two weekly newspapers published in Perth, Western Australia. Published 1885–1955 The first ''Western Mail'' was published on 19 December 1885 by Charles Harper and John Winthrop Hackett, co-owners of ''The West Australian'', the state's major daily paper. It was printed by James Gibney at the paper's office in St Georges Terrace. Elwyn (Jack) Lynn (6 November 1917 – 22 January 1997) was an Australian artist, author, art critic and curator. Career Elwyn Lynn trained as a teacher, and was a schoolmaster in Sydney Secondary schools until 1968 (mainly English and history). Lynn was self-taught as an artist. Lynn was Curator of the Power Gallery of Contemporary Art at Sydney University from 1969 to 1983. There he built up an international collection, which is now within the Sydney Museum of Contemporary Art. Lynn was an art critic at ''The Australian'' for many years. He was author of several books, including one about the artist Sir Sidney Nolan. Alongside his career as a painter, which started in the mid-1940s, Lynn was also an outspoken commentator on the visual arts. In the 1950s and 1960s he edited the Broadsheets of the Contemporary Art Society. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. Wynne Prize
The Wynne Prize is an Australian landscape painting or figure sculpture art prize. As one of Australia's longest-running art prizes, it was established in 1897 from the bequest of Richard Wynne. Now held concurrently with the Sir John Sulman Prize and the Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney. St Patrick's Cathedral, Bunbury
St Patrick's Cathedral (also referred to as Bunbury Cathedral) is a religious building which is the main place of Catholic worship in the city of Bunbury, Western Australia, and is the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of Bunbury. The current bishop is Gerard Holohan. The first stone was laid in 1919. The church was opened for worship two years later, as a parish church. In 1954 it was elevated to a cathedral by Pope Pius XII, when the Catholic Diocese of Bunbury was established. On 16 May 2005, a tornado devastated the city, damaging the cathedral to the point of requiring demolition. The new St. Patrick's Cathedral was built in five years and was dedicated on 17 March 2011, by Bishop Gerard Holohan.
