Robert Inman (actor)
Robert Inman (c. 1863 – 26 September 1940) was an actor from Dunedin, New Zealand, who had a substantial career in Australia. History Inman was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, a son of Robert E. Inman who was a theatrical manager in Australia and dead by 1899. but of whom nothing more has come to light. He left New Zealand at age 17 to pursue a career on the stage. He was with Essie Jenyns' company 1887–1888, notably playing Romeo to Jenyns' Juliet at the Criterion Theatre, Sydney on 23 June 1888. Henry Pettitt
Henry Alfred Pettitt (7 April 1848 – 24 December 1893), was a British actor and dramatist. With Augustus Harris, he wrote the play ''Burmah'', produced on Broadway in 1896. With G. R. Sims, he created a substantial body of very successful works, including ''In the Ranks'' (1883, 457 performances at the Adelphi Theatre) and ''The Harbour Lights'' (1885, 513 performances at the Adelphi). Their Gaiety Theatre musical burlesques included ''Faust up to date'' (1888), which remained a hit for several years and coined a new meaning for the phrase "up-to-date", meaning "abreast" of the latest styles and facts. Their next hit was ''Carmen up to Data'' (1890). Both of these were composed by the Gaiety's music director, Meyer Lutz. Frederick Charles Appleton (1835 – 14 February 1914) was an Australian actor, noted as a Shakespearean character actor, a "painstaking studious aspirant for histrionic honours", praised for his "considerable ability and tact". ''The Argus'' was an Australian daily morning newspaper in Melbourne from 2 June 1846 to 19 January 1957, and was considered to be the general Australian newspaper of record for this period. Swanston Street is a major thoroughfare in the centre of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is one of the main streets of the Melbourne central business district and was laid out in 1837 as part of the original Hoddle Grid. Aaron Sherritt
Aaron Sherritt (August 1854 – 26 June 1880) was an associate of the gang of outlaws led by Ned Kelly in Victoria, Australia. Personal life Aaron Sherritt was born in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran in August 1854, to Irish migrants John and Agnes Ann (née Nesbitt) Sherritt. He was the eldest of 13 children. He grew up at Woolshed near Beechworth and was a childhood friend of Kelly gang member Joe Byrne. On 26 December 1879, Sherritt married fifteen-year-old Ellen "Belle" Barry. William Gillette
William Hooker Gillette (July 24, 1853 – April 29, 1937) was an American actor-manager, playwright, and stage-manager in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best remembered for portraying Sherlock Holmes on stage and in a 1916 silent film thought to be lost until it was rediscovered in 2014. Gillette's most significant contributions to the theater were in devising realistic stage settings and special sound and lighting effects, and as an actor in putting forth what he called the "Illusion of the First Time". His portrayal of Holmes helped create the modern image of the detective. Gertrude Warden (1859–1925) was an English actress and writer, who wrote over 30 novels under her stage name, her name at birth being Gertrude Isobel Price and her married name Mrs John Wilton Jones. Life Warden began life as Gertrude Isobel Price, the daughter of a stockbroker. Born in Brixton on 27 May 1859, she was educated in Brighton and France. After a brief stint as a governess, Warden became an actress, working in both the London and provincial theatres, as well as touring America with Lillie Langtry. She performed in ''Judah'' at the Shaftesbury Theatre with Bessie Hatton in 1890. She married John Wilton Jones, an actor and writer in 1889, and the couple collaborated on plays together, but he died in 1897. She remarried Auguste Devot de Quillacq in 1899.
