Robert Henare
Robert Henare is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who played professionally for the St. George Dragons. Playing career In 1996 Henare was a junior with the Illawarra Steelers and also captained the Junior Kiwis. Henare spent 1997, 1998 and 1999 in Australia with the St. George Dragons where he played three first grade games. In 2000 and 2001 he played in the Bartercard Cup with the Canterbury Bulls and was part of their 2000 Grand Final winning side. In 2002 he played with the Port Kembla Blacks in the Illawarra Rugby League competition. He played well enough to rejoin the St George Illawarra Dragons in 2004 and played in the NSWRL Premier League. Representative career Henare represented the New Zealand Māori in 1999. New Zealand Māori rugby league team is a rugby league representative side made up of New Zealand Māori players. The side represents the New Zealand Māori Rugby league. Like its union counterpart, the rugby league team previously competed in international competitions. With some controversy, the team participated in the 2000 World Cup as Aotearoa Māori. The Super League International Board had agreed to give a place in their World Cup to the New Zealand Māori team as they attempted to gain allies during the Super League war. Despite that World Cup not taking place, the Rugby League International Federation repeated the offer for the 2000 World Cup when it replaced the Super League International Board following the end of the dispute. South Island Rugby League Team
The South Island rugby league team is a rugby league team that represents the South Island of New Zealand. They are nicknamed the Scorpions. The side previously represented the Southern Zone in the Albert Baskerville Trophy. However, they now only compete in the under 15 and under 17 National Competitions. Historically, teams representing the South Island played annual fixtures against the North Island and also played touring international sides. Touring Teams The South Island last played an international side when they played France in 2001, losing 24–18. The team included Robert Henare and Aaron Whittaker. The France national rugby league team represent France in international rugby league matches. They are referred to as ''les Chanticleers'' or less commonly as ''les Tricolores''. The team is run under the auspices of the Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII. The French rugby league team first played in 1934 on a tour of England. They have taken part in all World Cups, 16 in total, with the first being held in 1954 in France. They have never won the title but finished runners-up in both 1954 and 1968.
