Robert Gardiner (politician)
Robert Gardiner (February 24, 1879 February 6, 1945) was a farmer and federal Member of Parliament from Canada. He was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Gardiner first ran for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada for the Progressive Party of Canada in a by-election on June 27, 1921. He won the district of Medicine Hat in a landslide defeating former provincial Conservative MLA and Mayor of Medicine Hat Nelson Spencer. Gardiner defended his incumbency less than 6 months later in the 1921 Canadian federal election. He was easily re-elected in the cold winter election, defeating by a landslide the future Member of Parliament Frederick William Gershaw a candidate from the Liberals. The 1925 Canadian federal election saw the ridings in Alberta redistributed, Gardiner changed to the brand new Acadia district. Bristol was a two-member constituency, used to elect members to the House of Commons in the Parliaments of England (to 1707), Great Britain (1707–1800) and the United Kingdom (from 1801). George Gregory Gardiner and Frances Mary Touchet, he was born in Bonn, Prussia, where his father was a British chaplain. He attended Grenoble University and was fluent in French, German, and English. A successful businessman who served on the boards of many companies; his chief interests were in mining and securities. Robert David Lion Gardiner (February 25, 1911 – August 23, 2004), was the last heir to Gardiner's Island to have the surname "Gardiner". General Sir Robert William Gardiner (2 May 1781 – 26 June 1864) was Master Gunner, St James's Park, the most senior Ceremonial Post in the Royal Artillery after the Sovereign. Military career Educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Gardiner was commissioned into the Royal Artillery on 7 April 1797 and that October was sent to Gibraltar, which was under partial blockade by the French fleet. In November 1798 he was present at the Capture of Minorca under Charles Stuart. The following May he was appointed to the staff of the island's Mosquito Fort, where the French General Duc de Crillon had landed in 1782, and subsequently became '' aide-de-camp'' to General Henry Fox. Robert Hallowell Gardiner (February 10, 1782 – March 22, 1864) was a prominent, educated land owner in Maine. He represented the union of two great early New England fortunes. He was the grandson of both Dr. Silvester Gardiner, the founder of Gardiner, Maine, and Benjamin Hallowell, the founder of Hallowell, Maine. He was also a trustee for the Gardiner Lyceum school. The son of Robert Gardiner senior, a farmer, he was born in May 1878 at Findo Gask, Perthshire.Perthshire farmer.
