Robert G. Shaver
Robert Glenn Shaver (April 18, 1831 – January 13, 1915) was an American lawyer, militia leader, and Colonel (United States), colonel in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War serving in several key battles in the Western Theater of the American Civil War, Western Theater. After the war, he became an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan in Arkansas. Later, he served as commander of the Arkansas State Guard, State Guard and the Reserve Militia of Arkansas, as well the commander of the Arkansas Division of the United Confederate Veterans (U.C.V.). Colonel (United States)
The colonel () in the United States Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Space Force, is the most senior field-grade military officer rank, immediately above the rank of lieutenant colonel and just below the rank of brigadier general. Colonel is equivalent to the naval rank of captain in the other uniformed services. By law, an officer previously required at least 22 years of cumulative service and a minimum of three years as a lieutenant colonel before being promoted to colonel. Arkansas State Guard
The Arkansas State Guard was the official state defense force of the state of Arkansas during World War II. The Arkansas State Guard was created to fulfill the state missions of the Arkansas National Guard while the National Guard was deployed abroad during World War II. As a military unit trained and funded solely by the state, it was immune to federal activation and deployment, unlike the National Guard. As a part of the official militia of the state of Arkansas, it traces its roots back to the militias which fell under state authority prior to the Militia Act of 1903.
