Robert Fryer
Robert Sherwood Fryer (November 18, 1920 - May 28, 2000) was an American theatrical and film producer. Beginning in the early 1950s, Robert Fryer produced and co-produced many Broadway hits. Some of his most notable theatrical productions include: '' A Tree Grows in Brooklyn'', ''Wonderful Town'', ''Auntie Mame'', ''Redhead'', ''Chicago'', ''On The Twentieth Century'', and ''Sweeney Todd''. His notable film productions include: ''Mame'', ''Voyage of the Damned'', '' The Boys from Brazil'', and '' The Shining''. Early life Robert Fryer was born in Washington, D.C. in 1920. His father was a successful department store manager, but died of tuberculosis in 1929. Fryer spent the bulk of his childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, where his mother raised him and his sister, Eleanor (later Massell). The Century Theatre, originally the New Theatre, was a theatre at 62nd Street and Central Park West on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. Opened on November 6, 1909, it was noted for its fine architecture but due to poor acoustics and an inconvenient location it was financially unsuccessful. The theatre was demolished in 1930 and replaced by The Century apartment building. The Library of Congress (LOC) is the research library that officially serves the United States Congress and is the ''de facto'' national library of the United States. American Theater Hall Of Fame
The American Theater Hall of Fame in New York City was founded in 1972. Earl Blackwell was the first head of the organization's Executive Committee. In an announcement in 1972, he said that the new ''Theater Hall of Fame'' would be located in the Uris Theatre (then under construction, now the Gershwin). James M. Nederlander and Gerard Oestreicher, who leased the theater, donated the space for the Hall of Fame; Arnold Weissberger was another founder. Blackwell noted that the names of the first honorees would "be embossed in bronze-gold lettering on the theater's entrance walls flanking its grand staircase and escalator."
