Robert Forster (Australian Politician)
Robert Henry Mariner Forster (1818 – 2 February 1880) was an Australian politician. He was born at sea near Corfu to Henry and Margaret Forster; his father would later serve as governor of Goulburn Gaol. He arrived in Australia around 1836 and became a solicitor, based ar Armidale. On 9 September 1847 he married Maria Ann Morris, with whom he had seven children. In 1862 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for New England, but he was defeated in 1864. He returned in 1870 as the member for Goldfields North; he was defeated in 1872, re-elected in 1875 and defeated again in 1877. Robert Derwent Garth Forster (born 29 June 1957) is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and music critic. In December 1977 he co-founded an indie rock group, The Go-Betweens, with fellow musician Grant McLennan. In 1980, Lindy Morrison joined the group on drums and backing vocals, and by 1981 Forster and Morrison were also lovers. In 1988, Streets of Your Town, co-written by McLennan and Forster, became the band's highest-charting hit in both Australia and the United Kingdom. The follow-up single, "Was There Anything I Could Do?", was a number-16 hit on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States. In December 1989, after recording six albums, The Go-Betweens disbanded. Forster and Morrison had separated as a couple earlier, and Forster began his solo music career from 1990. Robert Forster (1791 – 11 October 1873) was a British Quaker. He was a surveyor, an estate manager and an abolitionist. He took a lifelong interest in education. He was cared for by his younger sister Anne Forster who died three days after him. He had notable brothers as well as sisters Mary Forster and Sarah Forster who were leading Quakers. Life Robert Forster was born in 1791 into a well known Quaker family. He was one of the ten children of Elizabeth (born Hayward) and William Forster. His father was a schoolmaster who became a land surveyor. His sisters and his brothers William and Josiah were very active doing good works and it was Robert who turned his attention's to the family's surveying business. He was also employed by the Earl of Darnley before he became an Earl as his steward.
