Robert Edwards (gridiron Football)
Robert Lee Edwards, III (born October 2, 1974) is a former NFL and CFL running back. Originally drafted by the New England Patriots, he also played for the Miami Dolphins and Montreal Alouettes before ending his career with the Toronto Argonauts. He is the older brother of retired Winnipeg Blue Bombers receiver Terrence Edwards. Robert currently serves as the head coach of the Washington County Golden Hawks in Sandersville, Georgia. College career Edwards was a featured running back at the University of Georgia. He was originally recruited to play cornerback, where he was a starter through his sophomore year. After that season, he was converted to running back. As a running back he set a Bulldog record for scoring five touchdowns in one game against the University of South Carolina. The 1998 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football.
