Robert Desmond
Robert Desmond (16 December 1922 – 2002) was a British film and television actor of the 1950s and 1960s. He started out in juvenile roles, making his film debut in 1948's '' The Guinea Pig'' opposite Richard Attenborough. He appeared in a number of early television films such ''Boys in Brown'', recreating the role of Spud Parker in the theatrical film version of 1949, again with Attenborough. He would appear opposite Attenborough one more time in '' The Great Escape'' (1963), as Griffith the Tailor. Other films include ''The Cockleshell Heroes'' (1955), '' Indiscreet'' (1958), ''The Ugly Duckling'' (1959), ''Sink the Bismarck!'' (1960), ''The Bulldog Breed'' (1960) and '' The Best of Enemies'' (1961). On television he appeared in the UK's first daily soap opera ''Sixpenny Corner'' as Stan Norton and later starred in the popular sixties soap ''Compact'' as Adrian Coombs. ''The Adventures of Robin Hood'' is a British television series comprising 143 half-hour, black and white episodes broadcast weekly between 1955 and 1959 on ITV. It starred Richard Greene as the outlaw Robin Hood, and Alan Wheatley as his nemesis, the Sheriff of Nottingham. The show followed the legendary character Robin Hood and his band of merry men in Sherwood Forest and the surrounding vicinity. While some episodes dramatised the traditional Robin Hood tales, most were original dramas created by the show's writers and producers. The programme was produced by Sapphire Films Ltd for ITC Entertainment, filmed at Nettlefold Studios with some location work, and was the first of many pre-filmed shows commissioned by Lew Grade. ''The Lady Is a Square'' is a black and white 1958 British comedy musical film directed by Herbert Wilcox and featuring Anna Neagle, Frankie Vaughan and Janette Scott. It was Neagle's final film appearance and the last film directed by Wilcox although he produced several further films before his bankruptcy in 1964.
