Robert Desjardins (curler)
Robert Desjardins (born March 16, 1970) is a Canadian curler from Chicoutimi, Quebec. He is a two-time Quebec provincial champion and a Canadian mixed doubles champion. Career Desjardins skipped a team at the 2010 Quebec provincials, but finished outside of the playoffs. The next year, Desjardins played as third for François Gagné, and finished fourth in the 2011 Quebec provincials after round robin play. They then upset the top two teams, skipped by Serge Reid and Jean-Michel Ménard, to win their first provincial championship and Brier appearance. They finished in tenth place at the Brier with a 3–8 win–loss record. Desjardins then skipped his own team in the following year's provincials, and edged an undefeated Philippe Lemay in the final in an extra end after losing to him in the page playoffs, winning his first provincial championship as skip. Heather Smith-Dacey
Heather Smith (born September 21, 1972 in Sackville, New Brunswick) is a Canadian curler from Fall River, Nova Scotia. While married to Brier champion Mark Dacey, she was known as Heather Smith-Dacey. She is currently the alternate on Team Andrea Kelly. Career 1990–2000 Smith grew up in Sackville, New Brunswick. She won two provincial junior championships, in 1990 as a third for Krista Smith and in 1991 as a skip. At the 1990 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, the team finished with a 5-5 record in 5th place. However, Smith-Dacey won the 1991 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. After the round robin, the team finished third with an 8-3 record. However, the team won both the semifinal match against Alberta's Tara Brandt and then in the final against Manitoba's Jill Staub. Mark Dacey
Mark Dacey (born June 22, 1966) is a Canadian curler originally from Saskatchewan. He was based at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dacey is a former Canadian men's curling champion skip, having won the 2004 Nokia Brier. He defeated Randy Ferbey's team, ending their 3-year Brier winning streak. Dacey went on to win a bronze medal at the 2004 Ford World Curling Championship. Competitive history Mark Dacey was a runner-up in the 1995 Brier, as the vice-skip for team Saskatchewan (skipped by Brad Heidt). Representing Nova Scotia, he reached the 2001 Nokia Brier, finishing with a 6-5 record, and at the 2003 Nokia Brier in Halifax, he finished third during the round-robin, with a 7-4 record. 2012 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2012 Tim Hortons Brier, the Canadian men's national curling championship, was held from March 3 to March 11 at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This Brier marked the sixth time that Saskatoon hosted the Brier; the last time that the Brier was hosted in Saskatoon was in 2004. The winner of the Brier, Glenn Howard, will represent Canada at the 2012 Capital One World Men's Curling Championship in Basel, Switzerland. In the final, Ontario's Glenn Howard defeated Kevin Koe in ten ends with a score of 7–6. Howard won his fourth Brier title overall and his second Brier title as skip. Ontario third Wayne Middaugh became the first person in Brier history to win at three different positions, as second in 1993, as skip in 1998, and as third in 2012. Middaugh also set a record for best performance by a third in the final (with 98%), and won the Hec Gervais Award, which was awarded to the most valuable player in the playoffs. Philippe Lemay (or LeMay) (born March 27, 1977) in is a Canadian curler from Grandes-Piles, Quebec. Lemay is most notable for playing second on the Quebec team, skipped by Pierre Charette at the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier. The team finished with a 4-7 record that year, missing the playoffs. Lemay himself curled well, at 82%, 5th among seconds. Lemay was also an accomplished junior curler. He won the 1994 and 1997 Quebec Junior Curling Championships, as a skip. His team of Patrice Rousseau, Pierre LePage and Steve Beaudry represented Quebec at the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. 2011 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2011 Tim Hortons Brier, the Canadian men's national curling championship, was held March 5 until March 13, 2011 at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario. This event marked the 30th time that the province of Ontario has hosted the Brier since it began in 1927 in Toronto, Ontario and the first time a Bronze Medal Game was added to the playoffs. In the final, Manitoba's Jeff Stoughton defeated Ontario's Glenn Howard 8–6. Team Manitoba were nearly perfect in the game, curling a record 96%. The team led 4–2 after 5, and stole two points in the sixth to take a 6–2 lead, after Howard was light on a draw. Stoughton's win was the first win for Manitoba in 12 years, when he last won the event, and was the 27th title for the province. A total of 8,261 spectators were on hand to watch the final.
