Robert MacGregor Dawson
Robert MacGregor Dawson (1895–1958) was a Canadian political scientist who served as Professor of Political Economy at the University of Toronto. He is best known as coauthor with Norman Ward of the 1947 textbook ''The Government of Canada''. Born on 1 March 1895 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Dawson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1915 and a master's degree in 1916 from Dalhousie University. During that time, he served locally with the 1st "Halifax" Regiment, Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery. He received a Master of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1917 and Master of Science and Doctor of Science degrees in economics from the University of London (where he studied at the London School of Economics) in 1921 and 1922 respectively. In 1921, he started teaching at Dalhousie University before leaving to teach at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and Rutgers University. Robert Dawson (born 1950 in Sacramento) is an American photographer and instructor of photography at San Jose State University and Stanford University. He received a List of Guggenheim Fellowships awarded in 2014, 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship for photography. Much of his photography has focused on California and its natural landscapes. In 2014, he published ''The Public Library'', a book of photographs of Public library, public libraries across the United States taken over an eighteen-year period. He earned a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a master's degree from San Francisco State University. Colonel Robert Peel Dawson (1818 – 2 September 1877) was an Irish Member of the House of Commons at Westminster. He was one of the Dawson family of Castledawson and lived at Moyola Park, County Londonderry. He was the son of The Rt. Hon. George Robert Dawson and Mary Peel, daughter of Sir Robert Peel, 1st Baronet and sister of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet. He was appointed High Sheriff of County Londonderry for 1850 and served as MP for County Londonderry from 1859 to 1874. Robert James Dawson (3 January 1921 – 31 July 2023) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda F.C. in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Biography Dawson came from Elmore and spent just one year at St Kilda, playing four games in the 1941 VFL season. The following year, he enlisted in the Australian Army and served overseas during the war. He had considerable success in country football, with best and fairest awards in three different Victorian leagues. In 1946, the same year he returned from the war, he played for Elmore in the Bendigo Football League and won the Michelsen Medal. Robert Charles Dawson (February 4, 1932 – December 10, 2017) was a Grey Cup champion former Canadian Football League player. Dawson was a standout junior player with the Windsor AKO Fratmen team, winners of the 1952 national junior championship (the "Little Grey Cup") in a 15–12 victory over the Edmonton Wildcats. Several CFL teams were bidding for his services, but he chose the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, with whom he'd have a 7-season career. In his first season, he won the Gruen Trophy as best rookie in the east (no stats were kept, and only Canadians qualified for the award) and won the Grey Cup championship. He also won the Grey Cup in 1957. Primarily a defensive back, he made five interceptions in his career, and he could substitute on offense, catching 11 passes in 1956.
