Robert Cutlar Fergusson
Robert Cutlar Fergusson (1768–1838) was a Scottish lawyer and politician. He was 17th Laird of the Dumfriesshire Fergussons, seated at Craigdarroch (Moniaive, Dumfriesshire). Life Robert Fergusson was born in Dumfries, the eldest son of Alexander Fergusson, Esq., of Craigdarroch and Orraland House, Kirkcudbrightshire, who was an eminent advocate. His great-grandfather was Alexander Fergusson, the husband of Annie Laurie of folksong fame. He was educated at Edinburgh and studied law at Lincoln's Inn, being called to the bar in 1797. He was gaoled for a year in the King's Bench prison in the late 1790s for being associated with Arthur O'Connor and Father James Coigly, United Irishmen who were trying to coordinate a republican insurrection in Ireland, with radical circles in Britain and with the French Directory. Alexander Murray (1789 – 15 July 1845) of Broughton was a Scottish Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1838 to 1845. At the 1837 general election Murray unsuccessfully contested Wigtownshire, where was defeated by the Conservative Party candidate James Blair. He was elected unopposed at a by-election in 1838 as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kirkcudbright Stewartry, filling the vacancy caused the death of Robert Cutlar Fergusson. The 1826 United Kingdom general election saw the Tories under the Earl of Liverpool win a substantial and increased majority over the Whigs. In Ireland, liberal Protestant candidates favouring Catholic emancipation, backed by the Catholic Association, achieved significant gains. The seventh United Kingdom Parliament was dissolved on 2 June 1826. The new Parliament was summoned to meet on 25 July 1826, for a maximum seven-year term from that date. The maximum term could be and normally was curtailed, by the monarch dissolving the Parliament, before its term expired. Lieutenant General James Wallace Dunlop 21st of that ilk (19 June 1759 – 30 March 1832) was a Scottish Laird and British military officer who distinguished himself in India and the Napoleonic Wars. Dwarkanath Tagore ( bn, দ্বারকানাথ ঠাকুর, ''Darokanath Ţhakur''; 1794–1846) was one of the first Indian industrialists to form an enterprise with British partners. He was the son of Ramlochon Tagore, the founder of the Jorasanko branch of the Tagore family. He was also the grandfather of Rabindranath Tagore.
