Robert Cecil Erwin
Robert Cecil "Bob" Erwin (December 29, 1934 – January 24, 2020) was an American lawyer who served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Alaska from August 3, 1970, to April 15, 1977. Born in Seward, Alaska, Erwin was the younger brother of William Matthews Erwin, who would later be elected to represent the eastern Kenai Peninsula in the 1st and 2nd state legislatures. Erwin was a state prosecutor for the Nome area in the 1960s. He took the Alaska state bar examination in July 1960, in order to be able to practice in the state courts. As a prosecutor, he handled cases as mundane as failure to pay state school taxes, and as exotic as unlicensed polar bear hunting. Erwin was appointed to the court by Governor Keith Harvey Miller, and was only the second democrat to be appointed. Warren Matthews
Warren W. Matthews, Jr. (born April 5, 1939) is an American lawyer and jurist who was a justice of the Alaska Supreme Court from 1977 to 2009. Matthews served as the 8th and 12th chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court. His service from May 1977 to April 2009 makes him the second-longest serving justice in Alaska history, slightly less than that of Jay Rabinowitz. Born in Santa Cruz, California, Matthews graduated from San Benito High School in Hollister, California in 1957, where he says he was inspired to become an attorney when one paid a visit to his classroom. He went on to earn his bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University in 1961 and his juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1964. George Frank Boney (July 3, 1930 – August 30, 1972) was a justice of the Supreme Court of Alaska from December 2, 1968, until his death. Daniel Edward Winfree (born February 1953) is an American lawyer who served as chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court from 2021 to 2023. The Alaska Supreme Court is the state supreme court for the U.S. state of Alaska. Its decisions are binding on all other Alaska state courts, and the only court its decisions may be appealed to is the Supreme Court of the United States. The Alaska Supreme Court hears appeals from lower state courts and also administers the state's judicial system. The court consists of five justices, one of whom is internally chosen to serve as chief justice for a three-year term.
