Robert C. Mitchell
Robert C. Mitchell (July 4, 1931 – June 16, 2007) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1980 to 1987, and was a cabinet minister in the government of Frank Miller. Mitchell was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. Background Mitchell was a communication officer in the Department of National Defence before entering political life. Robert Elgie
Robert Goldwin "Bob" Elgie (January 22, 1929 – April 3, 2013) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1977 to 1985, and was a cabinet minister in the Progressive Conservative governments of Bill Davis and Frank Miller. His father, Goldwin Elgie, was also a Conservative Ontario MPP in the 1930s and 1940s. He was a member of the Ontario Press Council from 2001, serving as chair from 2006 until his death. 1987 Ontario General Election
The 1987 Ontario general election was held on September 10, 1987, to elect members of the 34th Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The governing Ontario Liberal Party, led by Premier David Peterson, was returned to power with their first majority government in half a century, and the second-largest majority government in the province's history. Peterson had successfully managed to govern with a minority in the Legislature by obtaining the co-operation of the Ontario New Democratic Party, led by Bob Rae, in a confidence and supply agreement. It was through the NDP's support that Peterson was able to form a government, even though the Progressive Conservative Party had won a slightly larger number of seats in the previous election.
