Robert Bristow (December 1662 – 27 August 1706) was an English politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Winchelsea from 23 July 1698 to November 1701. He died aged 43. Winchelsea (UK Parliament Constituency)
Winchelsea was a parliamentary constituency in Sussex, which elected two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons from 1366 until 1832, when it was abolished by the Great Reform Act. History Boundaries Winchelsea was a Cinque Port, rather than a parliamentary borough, but the difference was purely a nominal one, and it was considered an egregious example of a rotten borough. The constituency consisted of the town and parish of Winchelsea, once a market town and port but by the 19th century much reduced in importance, a mile-and-a-half inland with its harbour destroyed. In 1831, the population of the constituency was estimated at 772, and the town contained 148 houses. Robert Bristow (1688–1737)
Robert Bristow (18 October 1688 – 3 November 1737) of Micheldever in Hampshire was an English politician. His father Robert (1662–1706) and his brother John were both Members of Parliament. Bristow himself was a director of the Bank of England from 1713 to 1716 and 1718 to 1720 and a director of the East India Company from 1716 to 1717. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Winchelsea from 1708 to 1737, and was employed in the royal household as Clerk of the Green Cloth from 1720 until his death. John Bristow
John Bristow (25 April 1701 – 14 November 1768), of Mark Lane, London, and Quidenham, Norfolk, was an English merchant, financier and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1734 to 1768. Early life Bristow was the third surviving son of Robert Bristow (1662–1706), MP of Micheldever, Hampshire, and his wife Katherine Woolley, daughter of Robert Woolley, vintner, of London. He became a leading merchant in trade with Portugal, and a prominent figure in the South Sea Company, of which he was a director from 1730 and then deputy governor from 1733. In 1733, he married Anne Judith Foisin, the daughter of Paul Foisin, an East India merchant in Paris. Career Bristow was returned by his brother-in-law, John Hobart, 1st Earl of Buckinghamshire, as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bere Alston at the 1734 British general election.
